(Yahoo News) In his first order of business as his party’s presumed presidential nominee, Barack Obama is instructing the Democratic National Committee to adopt his policy against accepting donations from federal lobbyists or political action committees.
The change will make the party and the candidate have a consistent position. Obama often says banning the donations is one way to help keep him free of the influence of Washington insiders.Â
Question 1: can he do that? Question 2: will Howard Dean allow that? Question 3: what crack pipe has Obama been smoking?
Obama’s ban on lobbyists money is not ironclad. He does accept money from lobbyists who do not do business with the federal government and he also accepts money from spouses and family members of lobbyists. He has had unpaid advisers with federal lobbying clients, and some campaign officials also previously had lobbying jobs.
Doctor Evil: riiiiiiiiiight. Has Obama heard of Goldman Sachs? Obama can talk about it all he wants, but, quite a bit of money is coming from companies with lobbyists and PAC’s, who do business with the federal government. The money is bundled in order to make it look like it is not the PAC donating, which is a cute game, but completely full of night soil. Obama was the top recipient with $544,480 for the 2008 campaign.
JPMorgan Chase & Co. A PAC that does business with the feds. And, looking at the list, Obama has taken plenty of money from other PAC’s that do business with the Feds. Of course, Obama left himself a little out, since he is not saying he will not take money from groups such as MoveOn.org PAC or any of the far left 527’s.
