1,000 Detained By Iraqi Forces

Why is this not bigger news? Also, how the hell did this actually get printed (goes back to my theory that good news from Iraq is printed in the NY Times of Saturdays because the editors are all getting drunk on Friday nights. Apparently, it extends to Reuters)

Iraqi forces have detained more than 1,000 suspects in an offensive aimed at crushing al Qaeda in northern Iraq, the military commander of the operation said on Saturday.

Lieutenant-General Riyadh Jalal Tawfiq, head of the Iraqi-led offensive that began a week ago, said 1,068 suspects had been detained so far.

“This operation will last until we finish off all the terrorist remnants and outlaws,” he said.

Sounds like the Iraqi military is standing up for themselves, eh?

Meanwhile, the lady who looks perpetually surprised has shown up in Iraq to meet with al-Maliki

(Nancy) Pelosi went into the meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki shortly after arriving in the Iraqi capital, a government official said, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to release the information.

Good thing that person cared so much about doing their job!

  1. John Ryan says:

Maliki knows the current situation is not favorable to the US Republicans and the election is just 5 months away !

  2. Stacy says:

That’s what I was going to say, but I wasn’t going to word it that way.

They know that Obamatard has a good chance of winning the election. They have decided to start pulling their own weight.

  3. John was right for a change. The Iraqi’s do not want the Obamessiah as president, because they know that he will abandon them in a heartbeat.
