Today, addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Governor Romney announced that he was suspending his presidential campaign for the sake of Republican unity and the future of our country. In 2008, Republicans must stand united if we are to prevent Senators Clinton and Obama from taking the White House. As a nation at war and facing uncertain economic times, the American people cannot afford the Democrats and their agenda for retreat and economic slowdown. With today’s speech, Governor Romney outlined the significance of this election and the need for the Republican Party to remain strong.
Yeah, I know, happened a few hours ago. Was out practicing capitalism. OK, I was picking up my contacts and finally getting a new pair of glasses. Ones which don’t scrape my nose. I digress.
Not quite ready to support McCain, but, what I can support is

This must have been a difficult decision for him and I know you must be disappointed, Teach. Although I would not have voted for Mitt Romney I do think that any person that throws their hat in the ring deserves our respect. Being President is probably the hardest and most thankless job ever and for all my criticisms of our current President I do think he has tried his best.
Yeah, it was a bit disappointing, however, my real candidate was Duncan Hunter. For the most part, the rest were just posers.
I think McCain will do fine. He will do a few things that piss conservatives off, but, so did Bush 43. So did Bush 41. Come to think of it, so did The Gipper. Can you imagine the outcry if the right-o-sphere was around in the 80’s when Ron signed the amnesty bill? Fireworks!
Sometimes the Pres has to do things he/she thinks is right, rather then popular. Even if it is unpopular to the base. Conservatives have liked that about W, yet, we will not accord the same deference to McCain. And, to be honest, if it was for a few things Bush has done, most of us would have said “why the hell are we backing this guy? He is not a conservative.”
To me, Bush seems to be a very caring person, who, for the most part, wants to be the Pres of the USA, not the leader of the GOP. His tax cuts were good, and necessary. For the most part, the war on terrorism was the right thing to do, as, in my opinion, Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has gotten some good Conservatives on to the bench, including SCOTUS. Otherwise, what? What has he done? Pork barrel spending approved. Out of control spending. A terrible DHS. Idiotic airport security rules. His pushing shamnesty. Where is the fence and secure borders? Commuting Libby’s sentence, but not that of the 2 border agents, Compean and Ramos.
I will always vote for the best candidate. In 2004, to me, that was Bush. In 2008, McCain is light years ahead of Hillary or Obama.
Eventually, I will get around to being an actual supporter of McCain, rather then being for “anybody but Hillary or Obama.” Unless he picks Huckabee for VP. I will really not like that.

I haven’t lost sight that national security is still the top issue….well, for Me it is !….and one I do agree with McCain on….Romney also pointed out that he and McCain see eye to eye on Iraq and keeping the heat on terrorists.
That and keeping the screeching banshee, hitlery out of the White House are my 2 top priorities.
So yes,….I’ll vote for McCain….but it’s very hard to get enthusiastic about it.
Maybe Romney will Smoke ‘Em all in 4 years !
Indeed, Romney’s speech really showed some class. I liked what he had to say.
But hey, this thing ain’t over yet. I’m still backing Ron Paul! He’s a whole lot better than Jose McCain’t.
It’d be nice for McCain to pick someone like Romney, Duncan Hunter, or Fred! for VP, and then graciously bow out after 4 years. Or, maybe pick Cheney to continue being VP. That would send Libs into hysterics, eh Suzan? 🙂
In some respects yes, in some, no, Ogre. McCain has some good points, as does Paul, I will admit. I know what people are saying about McCain being much different then a liberal, but, I see him being a whole lot better then Hillary or Obama with a Dem Congress. If McCain wins, he may end up no more then a care taker type President.
Or, maybe he will remember what Treason is, and throw the lot of them in jail.
