On the subject of the Iraq war — arguably the issue that has shaped the course of the Democratic contest — Obama made a crisp if familiar argument: that his judgment about the invasion reflected a broader skill for understanding the world. Obama also said his consistent opposition to the war would make him a stronger candidate in the general election.
Excellent! Another version of the Global Test. Say, I wonder how much of the world, particularly the bad spots, Obama has seen? As far as I can determine, he has never visited the Middle East, Pakistan, or the Sudan. Go figure.
“The question,â€Â Obama said, “ is, can we make an argument that this was a conceptually flawed mission from the start, and that we need better judgment when we decide to send our young men and women into war?â€
Hey, US military, did you know Obama thinks you screwed up? Remember that come November, when Democrats try to block your absentee ballots. Yet again.
Moderator Wolf Blitzer pressed Mrs. Clinton to say her vote to authorize the war in 2002 was a mistake, but she maintained her stance that her vote was for weapons inspectors.
Hillary channels John Kerry. Does anyone actually believe her when she says that? Hard lefties don’t.
She said later that the next president must “be sensitive to the implications of the use of force and understand that force should be a last resort, not a first resort.”
There is no need for comment on that phrase, nor denigration of it. The implications of Hillary authorizing force are quite clear.
She also said that she had “the necessary credentials and gravitas” to lead the country in a withdrawal from Iraq without endangering US forces or further destabilizing the area.
I wonder if she ever considered that the commanders in the field should have a say in when we should leave? Same goes for Obama. Of course, neither Obama or Hillary have actually stated HOW they would withdraw from Iraq.

As a former soldier and the wife of a current soldier I can tell you that is not the way I read Obama’s remarks. He is saying the decision to go into Iraq in the first place (which is a civilian decision, not a military one) was a mistake. I don’t know if I agree with that position, but that is a separate issue. In my opinion you are misscharacterizing Obama’s remarks.
I wonder if she ever considered that the commanders in the field should have a say in when we should leave?
As anyone who has ever served in the military can tell you, that kind of a decision is up to the civilian leadership. How we withdraw is certainly a military decision but not whether or even when to withdraw.
