Reason Magazine has a long article about who actually wrote Ron Paul’s racist newsletters
Ron Paul doesn’t seem to know much about his own newsletters. The libertarian-leaning presidential candidate says he was unaware, in the late 1980s and early 1990s, of the bigoted rhetoric about African Americans and gays that was appearing under his name. He told CNN last week that he still has “no idea” who might have written inflammatory comments such as “Order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks”—statements he now repudiates. Yet in interviews with reason, a half-dozen longtime libertarian activists—including some still close to Paul—all named the same man as Paul’s chief ghostwriter: Ludwig von Mises Institute founder Llewellyn Rockwell, Jr.
Financial records from 1985 and 2001 show that Rockwell, Paul’s congressional chief of staff from 1978 to 1982, was a vice president of Ron Paul & Associates, the corporation that published the Ron Paul Political Report and the Ron Paul Survival Report. The company was dissolved in 2001. During the period when the most incendiary items appeared—roughly 1989 to 1994—Rockwell and the prominent libertarian theorist Murray Rothbard championed an open strategy of exploiting racial and class resentment to build a coalition with populist “paleoconservatives,” producing a flurry of articles and manifestos whose racially charged talking points and vocabulary mirrored the controversial Paul newsletters recently unearthed by The New Republic. To this day Rockwell remains a friend and advisor to Paul—accompanying him to major media appearances; promoting his candidacy on the LewRockwell.com blog; publishing his books; and peddling an array of the avuncular Texas congressman’s recent writings and audio recordings.
I think the big point here is, if Paul knew about the content of the newsletters, then he needs to answer some serious questions about them. If he did not know about the content, then can we really trust this guy to be dog catcher, much less President? This was his newsletter, published in his name with his money. We aren’t talking about not know what some minor staffer way down the line in some obsure department wrote: this newsletter was a direct reflection on Ron Paul.
Personally, I find it hard to believe that the man who is going to “save the Constitution” knew nothing about the content.
This man was considered an honored and respected republican with an American Conservative Union lifetime rating of 85, and NOW you turn on him ? For things that were written 15 years ago ? Why now ? Why are these things wrong now, but were unmentioned by the right wing then? The left always knew and said these things were wrong.

Personally I find it hard to believe that the Republican National committee did not know what was in the newsletters.
Since when was he a well respected Republican? Most people had no idea who he was. If others in the GOP knew about the newsletter, then shame on them for not saying anything.
However, it was a minor newsletter done while he was out of congress.

Paul was a long time Republican with much seniority.
This is still old news. He has denied the content of the news letters over and over for 10-15 years. He continues to say, over and over again, that he simply does not agree with those positions and he does not support them. He continues to say that anyone who takes those positions will not be helped by him. I’m not sure what else he’s supposed to do.
