  1. Silke says:

John McCain had the best answer and apparently the voters in New Hampshire agreed with him.

  2. John Ryan says:

Teach hates McCain because of the global warming issue.
And the weather report from New York City ?
Another balmy day with temps in the mid 60s

  3. Stacy says:

Enjoy it while you can, there might another Ice Age headed your way.

  4. John McCain is full of it, Silke. His voting record and speaking history tells a different story then today’s tune. Congrats to him for the win, though, as I know you are a big supporter of him.

No, John, I do not hate him. I do not know him, so I cannot hate him. I do not hate Pelosi or Reid, either. I just disagree with them politically, the same as with McCain. He has some good points, such as his support for Operation Iraqi Freedom and the overall war on terror, and I do like some of his environmental policies (believe it or not, I really liked John Kerry’s 2004 environmental policy. Was excellent!). However, some of McCain’s stance, like his support of amnesty, failure to vote for the tax cuts – which helped pull us out of recession, McCain-Feingold (violation of the 1st Amendment), and his general policy of throwing anyone under the bus to get a positive quote about himself in the NY Times are distrubing and revolting to me.

I’m for any weather that kicks up some good surfable waves, Stacy 🙂

  5. Silke says:

John McCain does not support amnesty. His political opponents may characterize his position as amnesty but that doesn’t make it so. Romney even admitted it during the last debate.

McCain’s initial opposition to the tax cuts was due to the fact that there were no spending cuts included in the bill. You can reduce taxes all you want but if you don’t reduce the spending then you are just borrowing more money and forcing future generations to pay more in interest – which is what the current administration has done. It’s not about the taxes, it’s about the spending. McCain new this and took a stand even when he knew it would be unpopular and politically damaging. That’s leadership!

Teach if your biggest concern is Iraq and the War on Terror then John McCain is the candidate with the most experience. He is a war hero, he has been involved in most of the major foreign policy and military decisions in the last twenty years and he has been right about the war in Iraq.

  6. Stacy says:

Now Teach, you might hate me after this; but at this point I’m pretty sure I’m going with McCain. Many of his domestic policies I don’t agree with. But, I am looking for a candidate with both national and international experience, and McCain cannot be denied that qualification.

I just started with Facebook, perhaps you can throw stuff at me there.

  7. Silke, you can put lipstick on McCain’s illegal alien position, but, that pig is and was amnesty, no matter how you cut it.

I know his position on the tax cuts, and understand, but, it is funny how all of a sudden he gets principled at that time. And let’s not forget McCain-Feingold and his throwing Conservatives under the bus for a quote in the NY TImes.

Internationally, yes, he does make sense, and I heartedly approve of most of his policies and stances.

If McCain is your candidate, Stacy, that’s cool. I still prefer Hunter or Thompson or Tancredo, but, if McCain gets the nomination, I will support him. Better him then ANY democrat, and, we are never going to agree 100% with elected officials.

  8. Silke says:

How is it amnesty? Short of deporting 12-20 million people out of this country we are going to have to come up with some kind of program that makes them meet certain conditions and get to the back of the line. Even Fred Thompson agrees with this – the candidate you support.

Teach said: I know his position on the tax cuts, and understand, but, it is funny how all of a sudden he gets principled at that time.

When should he have gotten principled about it, after the fact? McCain’s concerns with the tax cut were a legitimate ones. Anyone can say they are for lowering taxes. That’s easy. But even the Comptroller General, David M. Walker, (the nation’s accountant) says we are not going to grow our way out of this fiscal problem by cutting taxes. We need to cut spending.

  9. If you are offering to forgive people en mass for breaking our laws by coming across our borders illegally, it is amnesty. Period.

Funny that the tax breaks, you know, worked, and brought us out of a recession that started in 2000, and was made worse by 9/11.

  10. Silke says:

Teach said: If you are offering to forgive people en mass for breaking our laws by coming across our borders illegally, it is amnesty. Period.

I agree. But that is not what John McCain is proposing.

You have to realize that you’re either going to drive 12 million people underground permanently, which is not a good solution, or you’re going to get them all together and get them out of the country, which is not going to happen, or you’re going to have to in some way work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it’s unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law or you don’t have the next 12 million come tomorrow.

Is this amnesty, Teach? Yes or no.

Teach said: Funny that the tax breaks, you know, worked, and brought us out of a recession that started in 2000, and was made worse by 9/11.

Funny how those same tax breaks failed to control spending, causing us to borrow more than ever before and leading many experts to conclude we may be facing another recession.

  11. Silke, he can propose all he wants now, but, it is in contrast for the actual legislation he helped author and voted for, as well as his previous proposals.

  12. Silke says:

Teach, please answer the question. The quote I cited…do you consider that amnesty?

  13. Darn right I do. And it sounds dangerously close to what liberals who want to give amnesty have used as talking points.

Again, McCain can pontificate all he wants, but, until I see some actual action out of him that contradicts his past actions, they are just words. I cannot believe a word out of him on this subject till he actually puts his money where his flipping position is.

  14. Silke says:

Teach, those words come from Fred Thompson (not John McCain), the candidate you support based largely on his illegal immigration policy.

You can watch him say it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkN2fYnMTBs

  15. Never said Fred! was perfect, however, beyond your little game, McCain has been for amnesty, and his votes and positions prove that out.

  16. Silke says:

So why does Fred Thompson get a free pass on “amnesty”?
