Global Warming Today: Is It Real?

Let’s see what John Stossel has to say (via Hot Air)

OK, let’s see your evidence, climahysterics. Something more then “I was told there is, and, though I refuse to live the life myself, I expect everyone else to sacrifice.”

Meanwhile, if you think you just know that it is Man’s fault, why not take Junk Science up on their challenge? The prize is up to $125,000. They are at 77 days and counting with no one being able to claim it. And make sure you check out the “Gore still refuses to debate” clock. Ya know, gravity has been concluded to be 100% real, yet, people still discuss it.

  1. john Ryan says:

Most Americans believe that the climate is changing.
Most Americans belive that Bush has not done a good job.
    Most Americans vote Democratic.

    Not all do MOST.
In America you get a choice on your beliefs.

  2. darthcrUSAderworldtour2007 says:

John Ryan doesn’t fault Communist Red China nor Russia nor India for polluting the world. This ‘socialvik’ only blames America. We need more John Ryans in this great country to fuel the red state voters with his CNN talking point propaganda, which is BORING. Wolf Blitzer, Katie Couric, Bill Press and John Ryan are all from the same Woodstock ilk – The ‘Blame America Cowards’… Ryan still won’t answer WHY impeached President Bubba ‘Stainmaster’ Clinton is the Defeatocrats only re-elected two term president since FDR during WW II (1944). 1944… 1944…1944, when Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin were still alive!

I found the story interesting but I was disappointed that none of the four scientists interviewed for this program presented any of their own scientific findings. All we heard were these very broad and general statements.

I’m sure the IPCC isn’t perfect but at least you can review all the information they present for yourself and make your own decision. For anyone interested, here it is:

Teach, I’m still hoping you will provide the scientific reports you base your opinion on.

  4. Belief is not the same as facts, John. Polls do not determine facts. Is it happening? Most likely. Been getting warmer since the end of the little ice age. It happens. But, if you have proof that Man is to blame, why not earn yourself a cool $125K?

If you are so sure of the IPCC report and your belief that Man is at fault (despite the fact that you have not changed your lifestyle to match your beliefs), Silke, why not try and earn yourself a cool $125k? You say you have the facts, go to Junk Science and get your reward. Shouldn’t be that hard, eh?

Anyhow, it would not matter what facts are presented. You would still believe that Man is at fault, yet continue to want everyone else to change their lifestyle, except you. Kinda like the way Al Gore does it.

Teach anyone who believes an organization that calls itself “Junk Science” would actually pay that bet isn’t being realistic. I’m surprised you see this as a valid argument that somehow supports your own position. You’re usually better than this.

As I’ve stated before, you are right to call people on not changing their life styles. But that doesn’t make me wrong about the science. It just makes me human. I have to admit it would be difficult to just stop driving my car. I can’t really see myself taking my kids to school on a bike (at least not at the current distance anyway – we walked last year, before we moved). Besides, I’m not asking anyone else to make changes right now that I’m not willing to make. What I would like to see, though, is our elected officials making some hard choices that would really make a difference in the long run. We could save a lot by raising emission and fuel efficiency standards. We could also require builders to use better more efficient materials that conserve energy and protects the environment. Eventually we will need to find a clean and renewable energy source so we don’t have to keep funding foreign regimes that ultimately give money to our enemies. This country was built on entrepreneurship. I think we can take advantage of green technologies while at the same time setting a good example for the rest of the world – which we will have to convince to follow us at some point.

Your statement to John is 100% correct – “belief is not the same as facts.” I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask you what scientific study you base you opinion on regarding this issue. If you can’t provide one at least have the intellectual honesty to admit it.

  6. Nice copout, Silke. You say you have the evidence, but won’t try and get $125k for providing it. Tell me another fairy tale as you refuse to change your lifestyle to match your rhetoric.

  7. Silke says:

Teach, I thought I gave a sincere answer but given your reply I guess you’re not interested in that. The bet is a fraud. The challenge is set up so that it is impossible to meet it whether the science on anthropogenic global warming is true or not.

Regarding my lifestyle – what about it should I be changing? I’m not asking anyone to stop driving their car today. I know in the future my next car will most likely be a hybrid (or something better if it becomes available) but we are a military family and it’s just not possible to get a new vehicle right now. I recycle, I conserve energy as much as I can and I teach my children to respect the environment. The biggest impact I could have is to elect leaders who make the big decisions that really make a difference.

I have answered your questions, please answer mine. What scientific report provides evidence that natural causes are mostly to blame for the current warming trend?

  8. Of course it is a fraud. It asks people who think man is solely or mostly at fault to back up what they say with, you know, facts. Based on the responses, no one that believes in global warming as caused by Man do it. It’s easy to pontificate, not so easy to put ones money where they mouth is.

As far as your lifestyle, it is exactly like I said: you want everyone else to change for you false notions, but not you. Matter of fact, it seems that you want to completel abrocate your responsibilities to live the life you say everyone else should.

Considering that your “scientific proof” is so weak that you won’t even attempt to win $125, I have no need to defend my position, particularly since it is based on billions of years of history. You claim man is responsible, prove it.

  9. Silke says:

Teach, I am not telling other people how to live their lives. As I’ve stated many times I can only speak for myself and while I would like to do more I realize it’s not always enough. I’m open to suggestions, though. How do you think I should change my life? Again, I have already admitted you have a somewhat legitimate point here, but it has nothing to do with the science. So why keep bringing it up unless it’s to distract everyone from the real issue – the evidence.

Here’s the information I base my opinion on. It may not be perfect but at least you can see the facts and figures for yourself. It’s the Fourth Assessment Report from the IPCC:

    http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/wg1-report.html

Regarding the Junk Science bet, I’m not a climate scientist so I don’t have any original work I can submit. That’s one of the many stipulations of the bet.

You still haven’t provided one scientific study to back up your claim. Not one.
