Tom Friedman, Living 9/12(?) and The 40,000

Never got around to posting about Thomas Friedman’s "we need a world where we forget about 9/11" editorial yesterday, but, here are some thoughts

What does that mean? This: 9/11 has made us stupid. I honor, and weep for, all those murdered on that day. But our reaction to 9/11 — mine included — has knocked America completely out of balance, and it is time to get things right again.

It is not that I thought we had new enemies that day and now I don’t. Yes, in the wake of 9/11, we need new precautions, new barriers. But we also need our old habits and sense of openness. For me, the candidate of 9/12 is the one who will not only understand who our enemies are, but who we are.

In other words, we need to consider how to blame ourselves, so that we can move on (well, really, move back) to the time where we appeased Islamic extremists. Maybe we could invite that nice Ahmadinejad to the White House more then any other world leader, giving him legitimacy, like Yassar Arafat.

The only people here who are stupid are the Truthers and the people like Friedman, who fail to understand that people who ignore history, are doomed to repeat it.

You may think Guantánamo Bay is a prison camp in Cuba for Al Qaeda terrorists. A lot of the world thinks it’s a place we send visitors who don’t give the right answers at immigration. I will not vote for any candidate who is not committed to dismantling Guantánamo Bay and replacing it with a free field hospital for poor Cubans. Guantánamo Bay is the anti-Statue of Liberty.

Last time I check, the oaths that all officials in the federal government take are to protect the Unites States, not the world. Go figure.

Rick Moran, posting over at Pajamas Media, writes about the article

He cites a study by a group with a vested interest in making it easier for foreigners to enter the United States as “proof” that our entry procedures are stopping people from visiting. No mention by Friedman how many terrorists the procedures have stopped from coming here but then, that’s beside the point, isn’t it? The point is, we are wildly unpopular and our global “brand” can now be described as “Give me your tired, your poor and your fingerprints.”

Which leads to a serendipitous article from the Washington Times

The Terrorist Screening Center has detected more than 40,000 people trying to gain entry into the U.S. who either associated with terrorist groups or were known terrorists themselves, and the database is only going to get better, says the agency’s chief.

40,000. Sure, the left will poo poo that number, and, perhaps it is inflated a bit, but, maybe not. Regardless, we are one of two first tier countries that the radical Islamics want to hit. If compared to the NFL, Israel and the USA are the Colts and the Patriots, the two teams everyone wants a shot at knocking off their perch. Our open society and huge borders are an open invitation for them to attempt to come here, and cause mayhem. Considering the support the NY Times gives to radical Islam, I suspect that the people who work there are not in any sort of danger, though.

Back to Tommy Boy

Look at our infrastructure. It’s not just the bridge that fell in my hometown, Minneapolis. Fly from Zurich’s ultramodern airport to La Guardia’s dump. It is like flying from the Jetsons to the Flintstones. I still can’t get uninterrupted cellphone service between my home in Bethesda and my office in D.C. But I recently bought a pocket cellphone at the Beijing airport and immediately called my wife in Bethesda — crystal clear.

So, the bridge is Bush’s fault. If you understand Lib Speak, that is what it says. Maybe the Federal and State governments should try spending the People’s money responsibly to deal with things like that. Stop snickering. No mention by Tommy Boy that it was a state responsibility, and, that shit happens. Tragic, but, yes, shit happens. Furthermore, it is liberal activists and lawmakers that stop the building of cell towers and slap so many restrictions on upgrading infrastructure that it takes 30 years to build one runway at Atlanta-Fulton. Have to watch out for the butterfly’s, you know.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been such a cheapskate and bought a good phone here in the U.S.

We can’t afford to keep being this stupid! We have got to get our groove back. We need a president who will unite us around a common purpose, not a common enemy. Al Qaeda is about 9/11. We are about 9/12, we are about the Fourth of July — which is why I hope that anyone who runs on the 9/11 platform gets trounced.

Maybe Tommy is forgetting that it is liberals who refuse to become engaged in the purpose of eliminating organized terrorism and protecting the U.S.A. Instead, they choose to focus on a common enemy, Osama Bin Laden. One man. When they aren’t calling it "terra" and saying it is bogus, and designed to keep the American People in fear, of course. As far as the Fourth of July goes, it is just another excuse for Liberals to fly their flags upside down, or, more often, to refuse to fly them in a more vocal fashion. Plus the requisite demonstrations and petitions.

A 9/11 candidate understands that there are people out there who want to destroy Western civilization, starting with the United States. A 9/12 candidate believes in forgetting about that, ignoring it, and asking how we can appease the extremists. The major difference between a 9/10er and a 9/12er is that the 9/12er wants to also give terrorists American Rights.

I may just be a small voice in the blogoderness, but, I won’t vote for any candidate who is living 9/10 or 9/12.

Oh, did I mention the 40,000? Wasn’t sure if I had. Good thing Tommy Boy wants us to move on.

    “In other words …..”
Teach the words that follow are YOUR words, nothing at all like most would understand the meaning of Friedman’s to be

  2. Cao says:

The crap that he says about Gitmo punctuates what Teach translated from the guy in the paragraph that preceeded it.

Nice job, “Teach”…I rather enjoyed it.

  3. Debbie says:

That’s the craziest thing I’ve read today. I don’t get people like this. It’s like living in OZ,… “maybe if we just think good thoughts, like unicorns and rainbows, then everything will be peaches and cream” And “if anything goes wrong, it must be our own fault.” Oh brother.

  4. Just in case you were wondering……

I am going to tell you about the struggles I am having with my left hand. A few days ago, it was working fine. I found myself sleeping at the computer again, and I had lost the feeling in my hand. Well, not actually the feeling because it was tinglin…..

Hey Pollmeister Ryan, where were you in 1998? Yeah – in 1998 during the Clintonista administration when OBL declared Jihad and WAR on all Jews, Crusaders and our allies? Hey Liberal Louie, OBL declared freaking WAR on US then and you and your ilk just don’t freaking get it? It’s a shame you weren’t sitting on ~~AA11~ or ~UF175~ or ~AA77~ or ~UF93~…… too bad Mr. Ryan for of the 2,996 slaughtered Americans and foreigners (120) on 9-11-01, over 1,000 of them were blown to bits and incinerated!
