Chertoff Tells Off Sanctuary Cities

Interesting, coming from Mr. Pro-Amnesty

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff yesterday told a House panel that his agency will not tolerate interference by so-called "sanctuary cities" when it comes to hiring illegal aliens.

Mr. Chertoff said his agency will enforce the Basic Pilot Program that requires businesses to check the legal status of new employees by matching Social Security numbers and information in Homeland Security Department databases.

Mr. Chertoff told the House Homeland Security Committee: "I certainly wouldn’t tolerate interference" by cities who attempt to block the program.

"We’re exploring our legal options," Mr. Chertoff said. "I intend to take as vigorous legal action as the law allows to prevent that from happening, prevent that kind of interference."

Mr. Chertoff stopped short of threatening "sanctuary cities" by withholding government funding.

Political pandering or actually paying attention to the American People? This is not a left or right issue, as both sides are not particularly happy with illegal immigration. For the most part, of course. Both sides have their open borders folks. Only time will tell.

But it looks like it could be political pandering, as, without penalties, without a carrot and stick, why would any city, including my own of Raleigh, comply? Why should we believe Chertoff, when all he really does is talk? ICE and other agencies have gotten more agressive as of late, but, what about the border? The fence is a disaster. Agents are being given conflicting advice. Ramos and Compean are still in jail.

As the old saying goes, actions speak louder then words. Let’s see the actions, Mr. Chertoff and President Bush.

WT – Please tell Kommiczar Yerk Off that if the ‘Fence That Wasn’t Built’is a joke, then perhaps we should remove all of the fences around our prisons and correctional facilities, and around our nuclear reactors. We should remove the fences around our US military installations and airports as well! Also remove the fences from around our sports facilities too so we ALL can mosey into the locker rooms and take that White House fence down too! – Insanity 2007

Every time I read those words, I just have happy dreams — dreams of the feds actually withholding money and giving it back to me, from whom they took it.

    Yeah, I know, just dreams…
