Global Warming Today: Hey You! Stop Eating Steak

No grilling (we do not call it barbecueing here in the South. Barbecue is a noun, relating to a pork dish), no broiling, no braising, no crock pots. Period.

PARIS (AFP) – A kilogram (2.2 pounds) of beef causes more greenhouse-gas and other pollution than driving for three hours while leaving all the lights on back home, according to a Japanese study.

So, none of the good beef for you! But, you can go for other "beef"

A Swedish study in 2003 suggested that organic beef emits 40 percent less greenhouse gases and consumes 85 percent less energy because the animal is raised on grass rather than concentrated feed.

On reflection, no, you cannot even have that. Still too much energy and greenhouse gas emissions.

Most of these greenhouse-gas emissions take the form of methane, released from the cow’s digestive system.

Just once I would like to see in print what those emissions are. Flatulence. Breaking wind. Releasing the hamster. Farting. That would be a hoot.

But, farting is a time honored tradition of Men (not to mention our prerogative), even mentioned in Chaucer’s "Miller’s Tale."

And you definately may not have beans with your steak, you evil climate change denier, you! They killed the dinosaurs, you know.

Speaking of dinosaurs, one nutball is comparing what happened to them to today’s "climate change crisis." I guess he never heard of the killer asteroid and the aftermath. Bet you thought I was going off the reservation, wandering around with different thoughts, eh?

Check out this US Carbon Footprint Map, an interactive United States Carbon Footprint Map, illustrating Greenest States to Cities. This site has all sorts of stats on individual State & City energy consumptions, demographics and State energy offices, State Taxes and more down to the local US City level…

  2. Excellent site, Fred. Thanks for the heads up. I have saved that one.

deer do the same things cows do, shouldn’t hunters get carbon offset credits for taking out venison?
