(CNSNews.com) – The parents of a U.S. Marine accused of killing three Iraqis execution-style in Haditha in late 2005 said Thursday they would ask Congress to censure Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) for saying that the Marines "overreacted" during the incident and killed civilians "in cold blood."
"It’s too late for an apology," Darryl Sharratt of Canonsburg, Pa., told Cybercast News Service after the hearing officer in the case, Lt. Col. Paul Ware, released an 18-page report recommending that all charges against Sharratt’s son, Lance Cpl. Justin Sharratt, be dismissed because his actions "were in accord with the rules of engagement and use of force."
Somehow, I doubt whether Murtha will even say he was wrong, much less apologize. He lost the honor, and cajones, that made him a Marine years ago.
Sharratt said that he, his wife Theresa and other supporters of their 22-year-old son were planning to visit Martha’s office, and "we’re going to ask for more than an apology."
"We need this man censured by our Congress," he said, because "he denied my son — and the other Marines involved — their constitutional rights to a fair trial and a presumption of innocence."
The Constitution goes out the window when a Democrat needs to score cheap political points. They claim they support the troops, but, only as far as they can use them for political gain.
The rest of the story is a good rehash of what has occurred Haditha, and the aftermath, along with Murtha’s disgusting comments, which are the norm for today’s Democrat Party.
Murtha is also being sued for his comments, though it hasn’t gone to court yet. He will probably call it some sort of right wing conspiracy. He should be impeached for missusing his office.
Could you point out where in the US Constitution it prohibits Murtha from saying what hed did ?
It isn’t against the law, or the United States Constitution to voice opinions about your personal view point on ANYTHING. Apparently you feel differently. Hell I still think O.J. is guilty.
In a real world Mad Jack would be shot. In the failed country called the United States (not for long) people actually defend the slime ball. I’d actually give any group of terrorists directions to congress if they were on the way to destroy every single person serving there.
Murtha is a disgrace, but more troubling is his refusal to acknowledge changing circumstances on the ground in Iraq. As the surge just began in earnest, it’s too early to call it a success or a failure, but violence is down, and Anbar is now secure. That’s good news, and it indicates that it’s way too early to throw in the towel on Iraq.
John, Murtha can say that stuff, however, speech does have consequences. Like, being against the law to yell fire in a movie house when there isn’t. When a sitting US Senator says inflammatory things like he did, rather then waiting for actual proof, that is wrong. Not only can he be sued for defammation, but, his words could have influenced the case. If they had been found guilty, they could have claimed “undo command influence,” even though Murtha isn’t part of the “military command chain.”
I think OJ is guilty, too. We can thank a witless judge who couldn’t control his courtroom, and prosecutors who allowed themselves to become part of the circus the defense wanted.

As far as the changing situation on the ground we have been told from the beginning that “things are getting better” why should we place any credence on this ? Simply because fewer Americans are being killed in Anbar does not mean that any of the political issues have been settled. I don’t believe that the Sunnis are friends that can be trusted, do you ?
I have more faith in our justice system, even the military justice system, than to think that what one senator says would make a lot of difference. And apparently from the lack of prosecution it had no effect.
I seriously think we should start an ‘Impeach Murtha’ campaign. The left want to impeach everybody from the President to the local Republican dog catcher.
But aside from what the left wants to do. He really does need to be gotten out of office. He’s a danger to himself and others. Mostly others.

John, the point is that a sitting US Senator, who has been there a long, long, long time, and is a leader in the Democrat Senate, should not be making accusations comdenation speeches before the proof and/or facts are in. He basically said they did it, and that could have prejudiced the case
Let’s say you were accused of a crime, John. Would you like it if, say, Arlen Spector said to the press that you were a scumbag and did the crime before you were even charged? Especially if you didn’t do the crime?
I reckon our Marines deserve to be treated with respect by a sitting US Senator.

Seriously, the only thing that can get him on is treason, and Democrats would never follow through, since they think tearing down the US and building up the enemy is “patriotic.” They are sick in the head.
Edit: we could actually get him on “high crimes and misdemeanors” if the lawsuit holds up, though.

I started looking impeachment up, and there is some confusion as to whether a congress critter can be impeached. Only one ever has, and that was overturned for lack of jurisdiction. The question is one of whether a congressman is a “civil officer of the USA.”
However, they can be expelled, and considerably easier, and for less then the “treason, bribery, and high crimes and misdemeanors” required for exec and judicial branch members.
Article I, Section 5, of the United States Constitution provides that “Each House [of Congress] may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member.” Since 1789, the Senate has expelled only fifteen of its entire membership.
So, essentially, it would be easy to expell Murtha, where the GOP still in charge, and if any of them had the balls to bring it up.
