TLF: Ed Schultz Needs Cheese And Crackers

He is drinking some very heavy whine

(CNSNews.com) – A popular left-wing talk show host claims liberal radio listeners are being denied the "fair market opportunity" their conservative counterparts receive, but a national media expert countered that the only standards any radio personality must meet are "ratings and revenue."

"The numbers are undeniable – this industry is owned, operated and programmed by conservatives," Ed Schultz said during a broadcast late last week. As a result, he told listeners that "progressive talkers are being held to a totally different standard than conservatives."

"This is about market opportunities. This is also about ownership. This is also about being given an opportunity to be on an equal signal with equal promotion," he said.

In recent years, Schultz asserted, "America has shifted" to the left on many issues. "The neocon agenda is dead, and the right-wing talkers that built up the neocon agenda for the last 10 years, they got nothing."

Ed continues on whining like, well, a liberal, even mentions the Fairness Doctrine. I wonder if Ed realizes that he and Air Deadbeat would be held to the same standards, and would have to provide a Conservative point of view to counterpoint their hard left view? Probably not. Liberals think legislation always applies to someone else.

As far as the "neocon agenda being dead," I don’t think so. National security, low taxes, free markets, free thought, and free people will never go away. Sure beats the liberal agenda, which, based on recent trends, seems to be hate and opposition.

But Michael Harrison, publisher of the Talkers trade magazine, said Monday he did not believe that liberal and conservative talk show hosts are judged by different standards.

"The only standards anyone is held to are ratings and revenue," he told Cybercast News Service. "Liberal or progressive hosts face the same challenges that conservatives do."

Something that liberals have tried and tried again to garner. In New York City, a hotbed of liberalism, WABC, which carries Rush and Hannity, among others, garnerd a 3.5, while WWRL hit a whopping .7, in the spring 2007 ratings. In San Francisco, the station that carries Rush had a 3.5, while Air Deadbeat had a 1.3. Ed is on the SF station, KQKE, from 12-3. He isn’t even on a station in NYC. In Rochester, NY, the station he is on gets a big old 1.0. People, including liberals, just do not want to listen to Liberal radio.

"Stations that play rock don’t like to play opera. What if you did a survey of the top 200 rock stations and found they’re 95 percent rock and only five percent classical music? Would that mean opera is held to a different standard than rock?"

Liberals cannot compete, so they want to regulate. They have found their method of on-air discussion to be lacking, to the point that libs would rather tune in to Rush, Hannity, Boortz, etc. The ratings themselves say more about whose agenda is more popular. Hell, Air America has to pay stations to carry their programming. There are no conservatives who do that. The programming is either provided free, or the station pays the radio personality.

The ideas that are promoted on air are a whole different post, as is the tone, which tends to be very angry on the liberal side.

  24. John, I did not say all sweetness on the Conservative side. Far from it. Anger is going to be part of political radio. Certainly, there are some, such as Michael Savage, who I have already mentioned I do not like, who are too angry and “haters” on the right.

But anger is the default position for those in left wing radio. There is little humor, and little other then seething political diatribes. I like Steph Miller. Same with Alan Colmes. I have, and will, listen to them. I may rarely agree with them, but they offer more then anger.
