I wasn’t going to write anything about this, at least today, figuring I’d leave it with the Jessica Alba post and watch a movie, The Fountain, which is one of those that really need ones undivided attention. But, after catching the CNN story on the Blackjack while waiting for dinner, had to do it. Here are the headlines:

• MSNBC: Bush vetoes stem cell bill
• NY Times: Bush vetoes bill removing stem cell limits
• cBS News: Bush vetoes stem cell bill
• ABC News: Bush vetoes stem cell bill, but what will his successor do?
• CNN: Bush vetoes bill aimed at stem cell research

And the hit parade from those champions of honest, fair, unbiased reporting just goes on. About the only one that was honest was Yahoo News, with "Bush vetoes embyonic stem cell bill," which, like most sources, uses the AP story. Someone must have been asleep at the switch

WASHINGTON – Vetoing a stem cell bill for the second time, President Bush on Wednesday sought to placate those who disagree with him by signing an executive order urging scientists toward what he termed "ethically responsible" research in the field.

Bush announced no new federal dollars for stem cell research, which supporters say holds the promise of disease cures, and his order would not allow researchers to do anything they couldn’t do under existing restrictions.

Announcing his veto to a roomful of supporters, Bush said, "If this legislation became law, it would compel American taxpayers for the first time in our history to support the deliberate destruction of human embryos. I made it clear to Congress and to the American people that I will not allow our nation to cross this moral line."

He vetoed similar embryonic stem cell legislation last July.

It took till paragraph four for the AP to admit that it wasn’t about stem cell research en toto, but only ESCs. And that is what the debate is about.

No one has any issues with other stem cell avenues, such as placental and adult. Except for those who have a vested interest in ESC research, which, unlike placental and adult, has produced nothing by blastoplasts (monster tumors). I fail to see why it is so important to the ESC supporters, who are primarily on the left, to force the American taxpayer to subsidize the destruction of human life. No one is stopping private research. It can still, unfortunately, be done with private money. Do not force private citizens to pony up for research that they find morally repugnant. As well as scientifically worthless.

I remember having a convo over at Little Miss Attila’s months ago, where I stated that the Left’s support for ESC research was simply a smoke screen to allow them to promote abortion on demand. As ESC research has gone absolutely nowhere, other then the monster tumors, I stick by that assumption. What other reason could there be?

Maybe one day ESC research could be valuable, and could actually find a cure for something. Maybe hangnail. However, adult has provided hundreds of treatments and cures. Seems a better place to put ones money. If a business keeps failing, and you keep dumping money into a losing proposition, is that wise? I guess in Liberal World, where they keep propping up Air Deadbeat, but most folks would move on.

Back to the original thought, it would be nice if the left leaning media could be honest in their reporting.
