Thirsty Thursday Linkfest: The Democratic Agenda For A “More Perfect Union”

Alternet, one of the great bastions of hysterical progressive insight, highlights ten pieces of legislation, all Democratic, of course, waiting on the table that would be, in their words, great for a more perfect union

  1. Healthcare for all (pure socialism)
  2. Counting every vote (especially those of illegal immigrants, convicted fellons, and the dead)
  3. Healthy Families Act (a week of sick days without reprecussions. Most already offer it)
  4. The Right To Organize (in case no one told them, we already have those laws. Like many managers in large companies, I have sat through long seminars and read many policies on this. Anyone who tries to stop organization is in deep, deep, doo doo. Superfluous)
  5. No permanent bases in Iraq (left wing meme)
  6. Stop Outsourcing Torture (great idea! Let's do it here)
  7. Access to Higher Education (let the taxpayers pony up for 4 more years of socialist indoctrination in public schools)
  8. Free And Independent Media (restraint of trade)
  9. Public Financing of Campaigns (taking even more tax dollars to pay for a candidate you do not agree with)
  10. Clean Energy (good idea. Dems have no idea how to make it work, but it is still a good idea. Except where tax breaks are removed from oil companies, which will raise gas prices, which raises the prices of everything else. Let's not forget Drunken Ted's blocking of the Cape Wind Project. You know, good clean energy)

Did I miss the parts about protecting the United States from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, which is the primary issue that the Constitution lays out for all three branches of the federal government?

The thing is, except for one quick bill, HR. 1, on national security, the Democrats are looking to do just what Alternet proposes. There is little on the floors of Congress regarding national security, other then how to subvert it. I'm surprised Alternet is not down with the "pull the troops out of Iraq" and "cut off the funding" bills.
