Ah, So Saddam Was Making a Nuclear Bomb. Thanks For Confirming, NY Times

Did you know that Iraq actually had nuclear material, including "yellowcake?" 1.8 metric tons of it, actually. Plus 500 tons of non weapons grade uranium? No? That slipped through the cracks? My my my.

Via Stop The ACLU, comes a story from the New York Times that completely destroys the Lefty/liberal/progressive/surrender monkey argument that Iraq had no WMD, and was not a threat

Among the dozens of documents in English were Iraqi reports written in the 1990’s and in 2002 for United Nations inspectors in charge of making sure Iraq abandoned its unconventional arms programs after the Persian Gulf war. Experts say that at the time, Mr. Hussein’s scientists were on the verge of building an atom bomb, as little as a year away.

Hey, that isn't Jay's interpretation, or mine, or any other Conservative's. THAT is what the New York Times, the supposed "paper of record," wrote. It was all part of an article designed to smear President Bush (from National Review)

Let's go back and clarify: IRAQ HAD NUCLEAR WEAPONS PLANS SO ADVANCED AND DETAILED THAT ANY COUNTRY COULD HAVE USED THEM.

I think the Times editors are counting on this being spun as a "Boy, did Bush screw up" meme; the problem is, to do it, they have to knock down the "there was no threat in Iraq" meme, once and for all. Because obviously, Saddam could have sold this information to anybody, any other state, or any well-funded terrorist group that had publicly pledged to kill millions of Americans and had expressed interest in nuclear arms. You know, like, oh… al-Qaeda.

The New York Times just tore the heart out of the antiwar argument, and they are apparently completely oblivous to it.

Ooops. The article at Nationa' Review also mentions Yellowcake Joe. I want to remind everyone of this: Saddam had 500 tons of non-weapons grade uranium left from the Oserik plant that Isreal blew the crap out of. That plant was designed to take non weapons grade uranium and turn it into weapons grade. Furthermore, this somehow slipped by everyone

About 1.8 metric tons of "yellow cake" and 500 tons of unrefined uranium went missing as the Iraqis left Tuwaitha unattended during the war.

Yes, it was found. Is that not "WMD?" Do you mean to tell me that Iraq actually had the material for nuclear weapons? Goodness!

Captain Ed writes

That appears to indicate that by invading in 2003, we followed the best intelligence of the UN inspectors to head off the development of an Iraqi nuke. This intelligence put Saddam far ahead of Iran in the nuclear pursuit, and made it much more urgent to take some definitive action against Saddam before he could build and deploy it. And bear in mind that this intelligence came from the UN, and not from the United States. The inspectors themselves developed it, and they meant to keep it secret. The FMSO site blew their cover, and they're very unhappy about it.

Here's a thought. The Dems were shown to be completely wrong during the Reagan years vis-a-vis the Cold War and how to end it, which Reagan did. Of course, the Left claims it was Carter (snicker) who really ended it.

Now, the New York Times itself shows that Bush was right, and the Left was wrong. How do they spin this?
