More Voting in Iraq: An Agricultural Union

More good news that I just have to wonder why the MSM isn't covering (from DefenseLink)

DIYARA, Iraq, Aug. 18, 2006 – The Diyara Agricultural Union held its first elections in the history of the program at the Diyara secondary school Aug. 12.

Farmers from the region voted for seven members to sit on the board of directors that will be depended upon to lead the union and its members into the future.

“They will decide the direction of the union and resource allocations in Diyara,” said Capt. Ben Simms, commander, Company D, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.

You would think the Lefties in the media would love a story like this, considering that it includes the word "union." Looks like we are exporting some of the bad parts of our economy to Iraq. Wink

Anyhow, can you imagine something like this occuring just a few years ago, when Saddam was in charge? I'm sure the little psychopaths under Saddam would have found an interesting way to torture those folks had they tried.
