ACLU: Private Citizens Will Now Comply!

The ACLU has now employed rambling, insane "logic" to insinuate that Americans acting in a private manner but work for the government have no Right to support any religion the Christian religion (from the Shreveport Times)

The American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana is unhappy with plans for a hurricane memorial in St. Bernard Parish will feature a cross bearing a likeness of the face of Jesus.

In a July 28 letter, Louisiana ACLU Executive Director Joe Cook said that the government promotion of a patently religious symbol on a public waterway is a violation of the Constitution’s call for the separation of church and state.

Parish President Henry “Junior” Rodriguez said, however, he sees nothing improper about the memorial, which will be mounted near the shoreline of the Mississippi River-Gulf Outlet at Shell Beach. The cross and accompanying monument listing the names of the 129 parish residents who died in Hurricane Katrina are earmarked for what the parish says is private land and are being financed with donations, Rodriguez said.

Private land. Donations. But near a public waterway. Pattently absurd logic from the ACLU. Perhaps the ACLU would like to tear down every Church near a waterway? Perhaps the first one to celebrate Mass in the USA. There is a huge cross in view of the waterways, after all. Maybe several other churches in St. Augustine.

Perhaps someone should sue the ACLU for violation of the First Amendment. They sure act like a governmental agency, don't they?

Even if the St. Bernards Parish government is involved, doesn't matter on little bit:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The Parrish is not the federal congress, nor did they even pass a law. I fail to see how, even in the "progressives" view that the Constitution is a living, changing, document, that the ACLU can even be close to right.

Stop The ACLU has more:

So now we have a branch of the ACLU pushing to censor religious expression by volunteers on private land? Joe Cook has shown a history of anti-Christian bias in his rhetoric, manner, and actions. It is good to see that the parish is not backing down. This is just another reason why we need the Public Expression of Religion Act passed.

Start a drive to have every Christian and concerned citizen in America put up a cross on “their” property. A couple of 4 x 4’s bolted togather and painted to be visible from every highway in the U.S. would make a statement against the communist party usa, (aka ACLU). Millions of crosses might get the point across.

I remain confused as to precisely where in the US Constitution we will find “…the Constitution’s call for the separation of church and state.” I search the Constitution in vain! It ain’t there! Only the most skewed reading can give us such an interpretation.

The real problem isn’t even the ACLU, but the US Supreme Court which has accepted as fact this false assertion. Until the SCOTUS actually rules based on the words that are in the US Constitution, I’m afraid we will have this battle to fight again and again.

  4. Hopefully, the Roberts court will correct much of the outlandish idiocy of past Court folks who created pieces of the Constitution out of the air.
