Who is Mohammad Tamir?

With typical depression hysterics, the AP brings us "Afghans Filled with Hope, Disillusionment." Typical of the Exempt Media, little is written about hope, but lots about disillusionment. But, who is their central character?

Not so long ago, Mohammad Tahir was a government official with a comfortable salary and a position in the Defense Ministry. Today, he sells bread from a wood shack on the side of a road. To Tahir, democracy is a distant dream.

"Not so long ago," huh? Not so long ago Afghanistan was in the hands of the Taliban and Al Queda. Could he be:

  • a former Taliban official?
  • a chief of Police fired for graft or illegal drugs?
  • or other?

We do not know, as the AP, typically, leaves out those details. I wonder why?

Anyhow, the AP shows their typical disdain for anything positive that the US, and especially President Bush, has done

"I’m not optimistic at all," Tahir said as a group of fellow shopkeepers nearby nodded in agreement. "We’ve done our part. Now it is up to the politicians to do theirs."

That is paragraph six. Just about the area where people start tuning out as they read.
