Dear Walter B. Jones

From: William Teach

Dear Congressman Jones,
I have this intense thought that you are 1. planning on retiring, or 2. have forgotten that you are a Republican Congressman who, BTW, represents the County of Onslow, home to Jacksonville, NC, which is home to Camp Lejune. Based on your web page and it’s page on Onslow, I am thinking that you have, since there is no mention of Camp Lejune that I can find.

Why do I have those thoughts? It could be because of your ludicrous resolution calling for a timetable to withdraw troops from Iraq. That is not all well and good. It sends entirely the wrong message to our troops, to the terrorists streaming into Iraq, and to the Democrats, who will use your resolution to attack President Bush, who, BTW, is a member of your party. The troops will be, and should be, withdrawn when the job is done. If you want to sponsor a resolution, why not call for the withdrawal of troops in Germany, who have been there for 50+ years? Or Bosnia? But, Iraq is vital to our interests, and saying "let’s have a timetable" tells the terrorists, and yes, that’s what they are, to just bide their time.

Furthermore, your speech, in which you said: "When I look at the number of men and women
who have been killed – it’s almost 1,700 now, in addition to close to
12,000 have been severely wounded – and I just feel that the reason of
going in for weapons of mass destruction, the ability of the Iraqis to
make a nuclear weapon, that’s all been proven that it was never there." could have come straight from the Democratic playbook. The war was never about finding WMD, and WMD was not the only reason for deposing Saddam. Perhaps you have forgotten the Iraq Liberation Act, signed into law way back by President Clinton? Or the brutal way people were treated under Saddam?

You speech furthermore tells our troops that they are wasting their time, and have fought and died and been wounded for nothing. Another one straight out of the Democratic playbook. Would you prefer that we had allowed Saddam to continue feeding people feet first into wood chippers? Saddam did not have WMD that we found, though everyone said he did, including the UN, France, Germany, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, and Ted Kennedy. Maybe he did not, but he sure did have the ability to restart his programs in a heart beat, according to UN inspection reports.

The Onlsow County Commissioners are particularly displeased with this resolution, and, one of them, Joe McLaughlin, called for you to either withdraw the resolution or resign. He has reigned in his speech since, but he is understandably upset with you.

Please reconsider your resolution. It serves no purpose, unless you are planning on retiring or switching to the Democratic Party. Since I am in a different District from yours, I cannot vote in the 3rd, but, you can bet that when the time comes for reelection, people will remember your resolution, and vote appropriately.

You mean William Teach isn’t your real name?! 😉
I’m shocked. Great letter, do let us know if you get a response. Thanks!

I certainly don’t condone this sort of subterfuge, but if an issue is important enough that you feel a need to write a congresscritter, but aren’t in his district, then why not temporarily relocate to that district (or state) and submit your comments via the critter’s on-line email form. It’s a little involved, but if the issue is important enough to you, that’s a small matter. Here’s how.

    1. Give yourself a common name – Robert Williams or Lisa Moore or similar
    2. Get yourself one of those free email addresses, or several, even – [email protected] or at lycos or yahoo
    3. Find the biggest city in his district and google search “Pizza Hut” in that town – Pizza Hut 123 Main St, Raleigh NC 12345-0918
    4. There you go – now you’re one of his constituents. You’ve a name, a street & city address from his district, and an email address. That’s usually all they want when you submit on-line comments to a congresscritter.

Plus, it’s quicker. Unless you write to his district office, all mail to Fed Gov’t addresses in the DC zip area goes to either Ohio or Joisy for irradiation. The anthrax thing still worries them.

His reply to you at Pizza Hut? Don’t sweat it, the Pizza Hut manager will glance at it and round file the letter- he’s busy with customers, he ain’t got time to figure out misaddressed mail.

  3. i had to find a Jacksonville zip code to make his email form go thru. I also am mailing it to him. This issue really ticks me.

Well done! If only more citizens would get as involved…

If you get a response, please post it! I’d love to hear how he weasels his way out of this. We conservatives need to work hard to keep our Republican congressmen (and Presidents, for that matter) in line.

  5. CARNIVAL OF THE CLUELESS #2

I played with the idea of subtitling this installment of the Carnival the “Dick Durbin Pol Pot Memorial Edition” but frankly, that’s entirely too limiting. After all, why place a boundary on our horizons? As intrepid explorers of th…
