I Never Said That

So now Jan "I’m a moron" Egeland is claiming that he wasn’t really saying what he was saying:

Egeland told reporters on Tuesday: "I’ve been misinterpreted when I yesterday said that I believed that rich countries in general can be more generous."

I will admit, writing isn’t necessarily my bag, I am much better at expressing myself verbally (and through hand gestures). But, I am a pretty capable reader, and listener, and having heard him and read this:

Asked about the response of rich nations to such crises, he said: "It is beyond me why are we so stingy, really."

"If actually the foreign assistance of many countries now is 0.1 or 0.2 percent of their gross national income, I think that is stingy really. I don’t think that is very generous," he said.

I understand the context. He was being an a$$hole. I wonder how much Egeland has personally donated to the relief efforts.

  1. the Pirate says:

Yeah funny thing to is the UN only counts aid as money coming from a government. Not including things like oh…….food aid. Not to mention completely ignoring that little thing called privately funded aid, which makes up somewhere around a modest 60% or so of aid coming out of America. Far more willing genreousity than any other coutry.

  2. Exactly. There will be tons of aid, money, and help, coming from the private US sectors. A friend of my parents was gathering canned foods together, and I donated a bunch of stuff. I hate the UN
