Raise the Red Flag on the DNC

In pirate lore, most of ye are familiar with the raising if the Jolly Rodger, also known as the Skull and Crossbones, when pirates go on the attack. But, sometimes they would raise the red flag, which meant "no quarter given." That is how I feel about the DNC and it’s supporters about now.

Democratic leaders are out of touch with the American people, Sosnik said in a panel discussion Tuesday sponsored by the centrist Democratic Leadership Council (DLC).

“The leadership of our party has a cultural disconnect,” Sosnik said. “Our leaders — particularly Washington, D.C.-based — don’t really have the same life, day to day, as all those people out there in those red states. We don’t eat at the same restaurants. I don’t know how many politicians in town that are leaders of our party who voluntarily go to Applebee’s, unless it’s for work. You look at the swing voters out there, what their sporting events are, the music they listen to, the celebrities, the television programs, it’s just not what the East Coast leadership (watches) — it’s not quite where we are.”

"Talk about Applebee’s, we don’t even go to the Cracker Barrels and the Denny’s as well," added Donna Brazile, who served as Al Gore’s campaign manager in 2000.

While, as Blogs for Bush states, this shows that the DNC is aware of their disconnect to those other then moonbats, I find it particularly patronizing. Sure, the GOP works at making the connection. But I find it a more easy going method, especially as it is easy to make the connection to W. He seems like a natural person to me, like Reagan was. Hey, Kerry did ride bikes and windsurf and perform other activities. But, they seemed more like photo ops then photos of a guy doing what he likes to do. I don’t fault him for being out of touch with the windsurfing: riding horses isn’t exactly a generally performed action by the masses, either (though it is more Americana.) I grew up at the Joisey Shore. Sailing, windsurfing, and boats, among other sea activities, are nothing abnormal to me. Kerry’s just came off as trying to hard, rather then natural.

But, I digress. I reckon (to switch to southernspeak) that it is the "Cracker Barrels and the Denny’s" remark that pisses me off, and wanting to open a can of woop-ass on the DNC. What better way to connect with the People than to plainly talk down to them? When it comes down to it, I am one of those swing voters, at least when it comes to voting for President. I have yet to vote for a Democrat for any State or Congress position, yet I did vote for Slick and Gore. Long story short, I thought they were the better (doesn’t mean best) choices for the position. Lieberman might, I repeat, might, have gotten my vote, had the DNC been wise and run him. But, they didn’t. They ran a Mass patriarch guy, who I disliked back in 2003 when I read up on him. What’s next? Having Howard Dean or Hillary talk about how much they like Bass fishing? Give directions using landmarks instead of road names (a good ole’ southern tradition, which I actually did even when growing up in NJ. Names aren’t my strong suit. Rocks, trees, and buildings are)

Again, I digress.

Lincoln urged the party to have a 50-state strategy, “and that encompasses dealing with people who live where I grew up: in the middle of nowhere, out in rural America.”

My take is that if you have to have some big, all encompassing plan to connect to the People, particularly the middle voters, then you have lost. It shouldn’t be that hard. If the DNC has to do that, then they have already lost. Their national candidates, leaders, and talking heads are out of touch with the American people, and there is no quick fix. Their strategies do not fit, their rhetoric does not fit, their plans (such as they are) do not fit, and their platforms do not fit. And most of the current DNC supporters will not allow any sort of "back to reality" plans to take effect. Just look at the moonbats pushing for recounts. They do not understand the 3 problems associated with this.

  1. Recounts will give more votes to Bush, as well as Kerry. Won’t make a difference in the outcome of the election.
  2. If the recounts uncover specific GOP fraud, how much do you want to bet that it uncovers Demorat fraud, as well?
  3. Any recount calls will resonate poorly with the middle ground voters, who really do not care for all the political maneuvering. It will turn them off, and turn them away from the Dems. Even those who voted for Kerry will turn away.

Well, I could easily continue to write a book on this subject. I won’t. I will just stop here, after saying "I am raising the Red Flag on the Dems."
