Kyoto Pact

Oh, boy. It seems as if the Kyoto pact just isn’t strong enough to stop rampant global warming. (Hat tip, Right Wing News) The Russians have signed it, but:

“This mustn’t lull us into thinking that the problem is solved,” Pachauri said. “Kyoto is not enough. We now have to look at the
problem afresh.”

Sounds like a wonderful recommendation for the US to sign the treaty. “Hey, it really doesn’t do much, but sign it anyhow.” No wonder the Senate rejected it 95-0.

Certainly greenhouse gasses are dangerous, however, the science is rather fuzzy when it comes to global warming. I wonder if it has anything to do with the sun being hotter?

The sun is burning hotter than usual, offering a possible explanation for global warming that needs to be weighed when proceeding with expensive efforts to cut emissions of greenhouse gases, Swiss and German scientists say.

“The sun has been at its strongest over the past 60 years and may now be affecting global temperatures,” said Sami Solanki, the director of the renowned Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research in Gottingen, Germany, who led the research.

There are so many factors in place here that there’s no way scientists will ever figure it out. How do they know it’s not completely NORMAL for the world to get warmer? I think they are incredibly arrogant to assume that man can actually affect the temperature worldwide. Heck, we can’t even rid the world of the cockroach!

  2. 2 things. Thanks Nixon, I very much appreciate your kind words. I plan on stopping by and checking your blog in a little bit. Been out all day.

Ogre, you are correct. There are tons of factors invovled, and who is to know it isn’t normal? We have had hot and old periods. The research that concerns me is a lack of said research on ocean pollution. I saw The Day after Tommorrow, and, while the time tables are probably totally off, the basic premise that changing the water circulatory patterns is extremely dangerous. Pollution is the worst danger. I did a major paper about it in grad school, about 50 pages, without all the graphs charts, etc, and it is a doozy.
