St. Louis Cardinals Stand By Decision To Have “Christian Day” With Lance Berkman

If the Cardinals, or, say, my LA Dodgers, decided they wanted to do an LGBT day, I wouldn’t approve, but, I, like most conservatives, would simply ignore the issue. We could just skip the game, which would probably be a faaaabulous game, and go a different day. Tolerance. But, the tolerance that Leftists practice never seems to materialize

(Daily Caller) The St. Louis Cardinals resolved to host Lance Berkman as their “Christian Day” speaker, despite outcry from the LGBTQ community.

St. Louis Pride, an LGBTQ organization, protested the Cardinals’ decision to host Berkman and demanded that the Cardinals cancel his appearance at their annual Christian Day, a post-game event where a public figure, usually a former player as in Berkman’s case, speaks about how Christianity has affected their life.

Berkman drew criticism from the LGBTQ community in 2015 and has been lambasted as a homophobe over his opposition to a Houston city ordinance that would allow transgender people access to bathrooms opposite their biological gender.

If you’re not familiar with Lance Berkman, he was a pretty darned good baseball player, who spent most of his career with the Houston Astros, along with two years with the Cardinals. He was an All Star and came in 7 in the MVP voting in 2011. He hit his 350th homerun as a Cardinal, was named the NL Comeback Player of the Year in 2011, and was an instrumental player in the Cardinals winning the World Series that year. So, you can see why he was chosen.

Berkman stated in an interview

“The issue is, what to do about a 15 or 16-year-old boy who thinks he’s a girl and wants to shower with the girls,” Berkman said. “Maybe he is [transgender], maybe he’s confused. But I wouldn’t want him in the shower with my daughters. We shouldn’t have the rights of 2 percent of the population trump the rights of the other 98 percent.”

It’s actually way less than 2%, but, point made. The Cardinals released a statement standing by their decision, in the face of St. Louis Pride releasing their own intolerant statement. The Cardinals noted that they will be hosting a Pride game later in the season.

Really, though, what these Leftists are attempting to do is shut down people’s freedom of speech, freedom of association, and just plain freedom, while putting more control of citizens in the hands of government, never realizing that this could end up backfiring on them in the future. Look at what Canada did

Canada passed a law Thursday making it illegal to use the wrong gender pronouns. Critics say that Canadians who do not subscribe to progressive gender theory could be accused of hate crimes, jailed, fined, and made to take anti-bias training.

Canada’s Senate passed Bill C-16, which puts “gender identity” and “gender expression” into both the country’s Human Rights Code, as well as the hate crime category of its Criminal Code by a vote of 67-11, according to LifeSiteNews. The bill now only needs royal assent from the House of Commons to pass into law.

That’s right: if you address someone by the wrong pronoun you could find yourself fined and even jailed. Open the door for a woman, tip your hat saying “ma’am”, and BAMMMM, find yourself on the wrong end of a hate crime prosecution.

“Compelled speech has come to Canada,” stated Jordan Peterson, Professor at the University of Toronto and critic of the bill. “We will seriously regret this.”

“[Ideologues are] using unsuspecting and sometimes complicit members of the so-called transgender community to push their ideological vanguard forward,” said the professor to the Senate in May. “The very idea that calling someone a term that they didn’t choose causes them such irreparable harm that legal remedies should be sought [is] an indication of just how deeply the culture of victimization has sunk into our society.”

What more is there to add after that? Well, we could note that Victimhood Society requires the Government to intervene and take away people’s rights and freedoms, and that there’s always this thing called the Law Of Unintended Consequences.

You mock gays, yet you use a picture of a middle-aged lesbian as your portrait. What gives? Do you have Jane Lynch’s permission to use her photo? (See what I did there? I mocked you for using a photo that looks effeminate.)

No. How does their statement of protest put more power into gov’t hands? The LGBT community is protesting someone they think in inappropriate to speak at the Cardinal sponsored event, which is their right. You might think that their criticism is censorship, but it’s not. You prefer that the LGBT community not criticize the Cardinals and Mr. Berkman, and mock them for it, which is your right – but in your model, wouldn’t that mean you’re trying to limit THEIR freedom of speech?

The Cardinals are a business and will make a business decision: pitting their conservative Xtian base vs. the local LBGT community and the fallout associated. The Cardinals draw 3 million, mostly white, Xtian, conservative fans a year into Busch Stadium that the taxpayers built. Said fans spend about $100 each (revenues of $310 million, last season). They are making it clear that they do not value the LBGT community as fans. It’s just business.

As an agnostic I could care less about Xtian day at the ballpark, but I was a big fan of Berkman while he was here. I disagree with his political stances and if he runs for president I would be unlikely to vote for him, but he was a great baseball player and exemplified the Cardianal ethos.

You’re worried that America will stop Con Men from calling people names like faggot, carpet-muncher, Muzzie, illegal or nigger. Not to worry, societal pressure may make you uncomfortable, but the feds won’t stop you from calling people names, Jane TEACH.

Yet, as our esteemed host pointed out:

The Cardinals noted that they will be hosting a Pride game later in the season.

Clearly, the Cardinals do want dollars from homosexuals, in that money from them spends exactly the same as dollars from normal people. One can only hope that they don’t force the Cardinal players to wear ‘rainbow’ uniforms or insignia for that game.

See what I did there? I mocked you for using a photo that looks effeminate.

Yet, strangely enough, I had no trouble telling that the photograph was of a man, not a woman, when I saw it. And it’s hypocritical of you to complain about “calling people names like faggot, carpet-muncher, Muzzie, illegal or nigger,” and then use a common stereotype of [insert plural archaic term for a bundle of sticks here] to attempt to insult our host.

But, we expect it: if it weren’t for double standards, the left would have no standards at all.

    • You mock gays

You have no sense of humor. Typical among liberals. I work with someone who is gay, and you wouldn’t really know it, but he loves doing the stereotypes for a laugh, like the faaaaabulous thing.

Of course, in Jeff’s world, things like assassinating Trump are the height of humor. Sick motherf*ckers, all of them.

          Jeff,
You have unrestricted support for Islam , the people who are killing gays and don’t accept them at all. Do you have any constant standards?

          • Jeffery says:

            dave,

What makes you think we have unrestricted support for Islam?

          • drowningpuppies says:

Maybe it’s because you are a sipper of jihadi penis, little jeffuckery.

          • david7134 says:

Who in the he’ll is we? But if that is Jeff, it is because you have your nose up their buts.

In a tizzy this morning, aren’t we, little jeffuckery?

All leftists should be banned from ballfields.
    Too many unarmed targets.

  3. Jeffery says:

And Berkman did say some dumb things while very publically opposing LGBT rights:

“To me tolerance is the virtue that’s killing this country,”

Tolerance is more harmful than the massive damage to the working classes since 1980? Worse than terrorism? Worse than the national debt?? Worse than invading Iraq? Worse than trump?

Here’s a sympathetic interview and “interpretation” by the interviewer that walks back some of Berkman’s more controversial statements.

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2015/11/10/lance-berkman-on-persecution-tolerance-and-his-stance-on-hero/

Many in the old Confederacy support Berkman not just because he opposed transgender rights but also because he did NOT make statements opposing man-dog-love rights. Southern white men seem to love it “doggy-style”. And they call it, “puppy love”.

    • Dana says:

Actually, tolerance is much more harmful, when you consider that we are tolerating thuggery and gang activity in our cities (the immediate victims of which happen to be disproportionately minorities), we are tolerating illegal immigration (which hurts American citizens, primarily the less skilled, which happen to be disproportionately minorities), we are tolerating drug abuse (which creates a permanently underemployable class), and we are tolerating sexual licentiousness (which creates an ever-larger class of single mothers and children without fathers).

Every bit of that, and more, has led to deficit spending and the “massive damage to the working classes since 1980,” as our welfare class, and welfare rolls, have exploded.

    New rule in gay world.
No longer is it okay to just be a gay, you must also be a dem.

Again, little jeffuckery, try not to shoot any conservatives today.

  5. Jeffery says:

The mainstreaming of intolerance by the New Cons of the GOP has led to the New GOP being the party of white, uneducated, Xtian, “hetero in public”, conservative males (and the women that fear them).

Real women, non-Xtians, non-whites, openly LGBTs, educated need not apply.

And trump is their inevitable god-king, who, by definition, can do no wrong. The wrath of god to smite thine enemies.

“… in terms of our liberal democracy and constitutional order … trump is an extinction-level event.” – Andrew Sullivan

It may not be as bad as all that, but he does point out the particular vulnerability of a free and democratic society to a demagogue with no internal ethical constraints.

There are a few ways to rid us of trump – forced resignation, Amendment 25, impeachment/conviction. I much prefer that the few remaining rational GOPers persuade trump to resign for the good of the nation and globe. When the 2018 class sends their Articles to the Senate, will there be 18 or so GOP Senators with the courage to vote against trump?

trump has surrounded himself with sycophants and fools to protect against palace coups, and is starting a pogrom against those that question his authority (Comey, Rosenstein, Mueller et al).

      Jeffrey wrote:

conservative males (and the women that fear them)

How odd it is, then, that even given a secret ballot and the common expectation that the odious Hillary Clinton would be the 45th President, 53% of white women voted for Donald Trump.

There are a few ways to rid us of trump

On either January 20, 2021, or January 20, 2025, we will be rid of President Trump.

  6. drowningpuppies says:

    starting a pogrom

You’re really bent this morning, little jeffuckery.
Try to control yourself and not shoot anyone.
Better yet go “play” with your grandson.
Show him how much grandpa “loves” him.
