The Congressional Shooting Was A Left Wing Assault On Democracy

The Editorial Board of the Washington Post uses the occassion to say our political discourse is too rough, and, oh, yeah, we need gun control

The shooting at a GOP baseball practice was an assault on democracy

….

What occurred on that playing field just outside Washington, where a gunman seemingly nursing a political grudge unleashed an apparently premeditated attack on Republican lawmakers, amounts to an assault on democracy…..

That James T. Hodgkinson III was a Bernie Sanders supporter was, surprisingly, mentioned, but, we only got that he “had strong feelings against President Trump” for the rest. He was a wacko and utter full of Trump Derangement Syndrome

Who knows what mixture of madness and circumstance causes someone to pick up a gun and go on a rampage?

How about Hillary’s vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine talking about Democrats having to fight in the streets? How about looking at the pages of the Washington Post, not too mention all the other left leaning news outlets which feature a constant deluge of articles on How Evil Trump And Republicans are.

Perhaps papers like the Washington Post should consider their own role in continuously pushing that Trump’s election was illegitimate, which would be an assault on democracy. Will there be any introspection on that? Of course not! They go on to push for gun control at the end of the editorial. Wouldn’t attempting to take the 2nd Amendment Rights away from people be an assault on democracy?

Then we have the NY Times

America’s Lethal Politics

Not all the details are known yet about what happened in Virginia, but a sickeningly familiar pattern is emerging in the assault: The sniper, James Hodgkinson, who was killed by Capitol Police officers, was surely deranged, and his derangement had found its fuel in politics. Mr. Hodgkinson was a Bernie Sanders supporter and campaign volunteer virulently opposed to President Trump. He posted many anti-Trump messages on social media, including one in March that said “Time to Destroy Trump & Co.”

Was this attack evidence of how vicious American politics has become? Probably. In 2011, when Jared Lee Loughner opened fire in a supermarket parking lot, grievously wounding Representative Gabby Giffords and killing six people, including a 9-year-old girl, the link to political incitement was clear. Before the shooting, Sarah Palin’s political action committee circulated a map of targeted electoral districts that put Ms. Giffords and 19 other Democrats under stylized cross hairs.

Conservatives and right-wing media were quick on Wednesday to demand forceful condemnation of hate speech and crimes by anti-Trump liberals. They’re right. Though there’s no sign of incitement as direct as in the Giffords attack, liberals should of course hold themselves to the same standard of decency that they ask of the right.

I’ll let Beckett Adams respond regarding the utter idiocy of the Palin accusation, except to say that Loughner was a nutball who held all sorts of views, some on the right, most on the left. But, if the Times needs a link, how about

You can find plenty more examples of Democrats talking about fighting and violence in to #Resist Trump and the GOP.

And, of course, the NY Times Editorial Board ends their missive like the Washington Post did, with a call for an assault on the 2nd Amendment. Perhaps they should tone down their constant assaults on Trump and Republicans, because their unhinged “we’re all doomed” attitudes surely incites Leftists to become violent.

So your answer to hateful rhetoric is more hateful rhetoric.

Was the shooting of Gabby Giffords a right-wing assault on democracy?

During the Obama terms, were the constant conservative exhortations of “watering the tree of liberty” and “second amendment remedies” right wing assaults on democracy? TEACH has a conveniently short memory.

Note that thankfully only the shooter died yesterday, so it was a quiet day for multiple shootings.

Nearly every day, some American picks up a gun and shoots up his family or co-workers. (Just in, an “aggrieved” UPS worker shot and killed 3 co-workers yesterday).

We have become a more violent and gun-happy culture “solving” our grievances and frustrations by shooting.

And discussions about reducing the carnage are met with violent rhetoric about tyranny.

  2. Jeffery says:

Most politically motivated assaults in the US are committed by rightists. Several by jihadists. Precious few by leftists.

  3. Hank says:

Considering that Democrats hate guns and most mass shootings have been committed by Democrats I think they should be barred from buying guns. Those that hypocritically have them should surrender them to the police.

I think it would be funny to hear them howl about their 2nd amendment rights being violated if we added all registered Democrat voters to the background check ‘no buy list’.

  5. Jeffery says:

Is there anyone in the US that insults, cajoles, mocks and insults political opponents more than the current interloper in America’s house?

Even Republicans are calling out trump for his nasty tweets and vile comments inciting violence.

    • drowningpuppies says:

So to little jeffuckery that’s as good a reason as any for leftists to riot and shoot people.

    • Dana says:

President Trump probably does insult and mock his political opponents more than anyone else. That, in large part, is why Hillary Clinton is crying over the office she just plain deserved, damn it!

But the simple truth is that President Trump insults and mocks people who ought to be insulted and mocked.

      • Jeffery says:

Exactly. Of course you consider his incitement of violence against others to be well deserved.

I consider Republicans to be horrible people out to destroy America. drumpfuckery deserves to be mocked and ridiculed too. He is already the worst president in history, and by far the worst “person” to ever hold the office. He is a liar, a con man, a crook, a cheater and a pussy grabber.

  6. Jeffery says:

Here’s drumpfuckery confidante Ted Nugent and Alex Jones riffing on killing libs:

“I don’t care why he’s foaming at the mouth, I don’t care how he got rabies, he’s rabid, get rid of the damn dog,” he said. “When Old Yeller brings us slippers, give him a biscuit; when he foams at the mouth, you shoot him between the eyes. Any questions? You got to do it. America, you got to cleanse this country. No, I’m not talking about shooting anybody. I’m talking about dealing with an outrageous condition that is painful and traumatic and frustrating, but if you don’t face the beast, you’re dead, and that’s what’s going on.”

He continued: “I don’t really care why Barack Obama is the enemy of America. I don’t really care why Nancy Pelosi is a braindead, vicious freak. I don’t care how Sheila Jackson Lee is allowed to stay in power.”

“Or why Harry Reid is a piece of crap,” host Alex Jones interjected.

Nugent went on to claim that liberal Democrats are “subhuman freaks,” while Jones wondered how America “could be ruled by such gibbering weirdos.” “If I didn’t laugh I’d probably throw up blood, it’s so insane,” Nugent said.

Nugent concluded that liberals want everyone “bending over and taking it in the ass,” and can only be thwarted by great leaders like Ted Cruz and Donald Trump.

Meanwhile, Jones hoped that the establishment would eventually realize that Obama is “trying to set up a caliphate” and “overthrowing this country”: “Do they really want to put bags on our women’s heads?”

drumpfuckery brought Nugent into the White House and the NRA put him on their board.

  10. Jeffery says:

Even drumpfuckery himself advocates violence against his perceived “enemies”.

  11. Jeffery says:

Raymond H. Geisel referred to Obama with a racial epithet and said, “If he gets elected, I’ll assassinate him myself.” In his hotel room, authorities found ammunition, body armor, a combat-style hatchet, tear gas, a loaded 9 mm handgun and four loaded magazines. He was arrested and convicted.

Tharin Gartrell, Shawn Adolf, and their friend Nathan Johnson, came to Denver to kill Obama, and discussed in their hotel room how they could assassinate him. Gartrell was arrested when police found his truck filled with weapons and narcotics. Johnson and Adolf were arrested shortly thereafter and, during a televised interview, Johnson later indicated Adolf was the one who planned the alleged threat. They were arrested and convicted.

Paul Schlesselman and Daniel Cowart, two men with strong white supremacist beliefs, planned a murder spree of 88 African Americans (14 of which they were planning to behead) in Tennessee. They allegedly planned to end the spree by driving their vehicle toward Barack Obama as fast as they could and shooting at him from the windows. The two men were arrested in possession of several guns, and told police they intended to rob a firearms dealer and other stores to secure more weapons for the attacks. They were sentenced – Schlesselman to 10 years and Cowart to 14 years in prison.

James G Cummings, a wealthy white supremacist, was shot dead by his wife. Police discovered components and instructions for making a dirty bomb, and notified the FBI, who sealed off the scene. The FBI discovered four 1-gallon containers of 35 percent hydrogen peroxide, uranium, thorium, lithium metal, thermite, aluminum powder, beryllium, boron, black iron oxide and magnesium ribbon as well as literature on how to build “dirty bombs” and information about cesium-137, strontium-90 and cobalt-60, radioactive materials. Cummings had connections to various white Supremacist groups. According to his wife, Cummings was not happy that Obama was elected president, and planned to set the bomb off at his inauguration. Amber Cummings pleaded guilty to his murder, but was given a suspended sentence.

Kristy Lee Roshia called the Boston office of the Secret Service and told them she planned to “blow away” First Lady Michelle Obama while the family visited Honolulu. Roshia told authorities she knew “the exact location” the Obama family would be staying, consistent with the itinerary of the Obama family at the Secret Service office in Hawaii. Roshia was arrested two miles from the Honolulu house the Obama family had booked for their vacation and was charged with threatening a family member of the president and assaulting a federal agent while being arrested. Roshia was sentenced for her crimes.

Four U.S. Army soldiers, Private Isaac Aguigui, Private First Class Michael Burnett, Sergeant Anthony Peden, and Private Christopher Salmon in Georgia (US), formed a paramilitary group, the FEAR militia, with plans to overthrow the U.S. federal government, conspired to take over Fort Stewart, bomb targets in Savannah and Washington state, and assassinate President Obama. The group purchased $87,000 worth of guns and bomb-making materials. They murdered a former soldier and his girlfriend because they knew of the militia group’s plans. They received life sentences.

Mitchell Kusick was arrested by the U.S. Secret Service in Denver after his therapist told police that he wanted to kill President Obama, and was keeping track of Obama’s visits to Denver. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Hosley stated that the Secret Service stated they arrested him because “they were concerned for the community’s safety”. He spent 9 months in prison.

Glenn Scott Crawford and Eric J. Feight from upstate New York were arrested after building a “death ray” x-ray device and plotting to use it against Muslims, and other perceived enemies of the United States and Israel, including President Obama. Crawford, affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan, contacted an Albany synagogue and a Jewish organization, and asked for their assistance with technology that could be used against Israel’s enemies. Crawford also plotted to kill President Obama with the device, and was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

A letter laced with ricin, a deadly poison, was sent to President Obama along with other government officials. Another attempt was made in June 2013, when another ricin-laced letter was sent to President Obama by actress Shannon Richardson. The letter contained a threat to kill anyone attempting to take away the sender’s guns or impair their “constitutional God given” right to bear arms. She was sentenced to eighteen years in prison.

And let’s realize that the objective of internet trolls such as TEACH, the odious jimhoft, most right-wing bloggers and even drumpfuckery himself is to make people angry, not to enlighten. Their namecalling, ridiculing and lies are not meant to add to rational discourse – they are tactics to sway political arguments.

Alinsky Rule 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.
