Justice Department Takes Aim At Sanctuary Cities

AG Jeff Sessions is putting cities that protect criminal illegal aliens, ones with crimes on their resumes like homicide, arson, assault, identity theft, rape, and sexual assault against a child, on notice

(ABC News) Attorney General Jeff Sessions made a surprise appearance at today’s White House press briefing, slamming cities that are working to ignore the federal law to turn over people who are living in the country illegally.

Sessions said he “strongly urges” these cities, known as sanctuary cities, to “consider carefully” the damage they are doing to national security and public safety by refusing to enforce immigration laws.

“Unfortunately some states and cities have adopted policies designed to frustrate the enforcement of immigration laws,” including refusing to detain nonfelons on federal detainer requests, Sessions said.

Sessions noted a Department of Homeland Security report out last week showing more than 200 criminal suspects released in one week despite Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainers.

“Such policies cannot continue. They make our nation less safe by putting dangerous criminals back on the streets,” he added.

What does he plan to do about this?

“We intend to use all the lawful authorities we have to make sure our state and local officials … are in sync with the federal government,” Sessions said.

“Moreover, the Department of Justice will require that jurisdictions seeking or applying for Department of Justice grants to certify compliance with [relevant laws] as a condition of receiving those awards,” he added.

In the current fiscal year, Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs is slated to award $4.1 billion in grants.

For cities, that’s a lot of money to lose.

He brought up the death of Kate Steinle, a woman who was allegedly shot and killed by an unauthorized immigrant on a San Francisco pier last summer. Donald Trump repeatedly cited her death during the presidential campaign when he called for an end to sanctuary cities.

Allegedly? Allegedly? It’s 100% true that Kate was murdered by an illegal alien criminal who had been deported six times for various criminal convictions. This is why the media has lost credibility.

Anyway, this has made many who support sanctuary cities, and, by extension, child raping illegal aliens, upset

(LA Times) California Senate leader Kevin de León on Monday called U.S. Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions’ move to cut federal funding from so-called sanctuary cities “nothing short of blackmail.”

In a statement, De León (D-Los Angeles) said Sessions and the Trump administration “stuck to alternative facts” when describing immigrants and sanctuary counties and cities, where local policies limit the cooperation of law enforcement agencies with federal authorities on immigration laws.

“Instead of making us safer, the Trump administration is spreading fear and promoting race-based scapegoating,” he said. “Their gun-to-the-head method to force resistant cities and counties to participate in Trump’s inhumane and counterproductive mass-deportation is unconstitutional and will fail.”

Is it blackmail? Perhaps. But, then, it shouldn’t be necessary to do this to get cities to cooperate with federal law regarding people who are unlawfully present in the United States who have not only been accused of crimes, but, in most cases, been convicted of crimes. Like molesting children.

And, let’s face it, it’s not like the U.S. government hasn’t done similar things. Obama threatened to withhold school funding for those who refused to kowtow to the gender confused.

(LA Times) Still, officials in sanctuary cities across California scrambled to touch base on Monday with attorneys to explore their legal options. For most cities, the move to declare themselves sanctuary jurisdictions largely serves as a message of political support for immigrants in the country illegally.

So, they are going to fight to support those unlawfully present in the country who are child molesters. Is this the fight Democrat cities really want?

Kate Steinle was unavailable for comment. Nor was Drew Rosenberg, who was hit then run over three times by an illegal alien in San Francisco, which refused to cooperate with federal authorities, and released the illegal to the streets after 43 days in jail. Nor all the children molested by illegal aliens. Sure you want this fight, Democrats?

trumpy’s problem (on this issue, he has SO many problems…) is that the American people don’t support his policy of tracking down and deporting 12 million American residents. There IS a very vocal subset of trumpy supporters who do.

Sessions and the fluffer conservamedia are working to change the opinion of the American people by pointing out repeatedly how vile and violent immigrants are, just as the white nationalist in chief did.

  2. Jeffery says:

27% of Americans polled recently agreed that the US should deport all undocumented residents.

This is probably the “floor” of support for trump, which he is rapidly approaching. We assume that all Covians fall within the 27%.

Citing a CNN poll that was heavy on the Democrats polled as well as very heavy on Independents who lean democrat is probably not a good way to make a point.

Remember, these are the same fake polls that had Hillary winning in a landslide. How did that work out?

After some further digging, it is interesting that in that same poll, that neither you nor The Hill, thought is was worthwhile to mention that 78% of those polled agree that illegal immigrants who have committed a crime in the US should be deported. This is EXACTLY what Trump and ICE are doing right now.

For the record, I don’t believe any of the numbers in that, or any, poll like this. I just find it funny that the only part of it cited by our resident troll and The Hill is those that support their agenda, and the parts that don’t are ignored. Typical.

There already is a path to citizenship.
      1. Walk into any US embassy or consulate and ask to fill out an application.

      2. There is no step 2.

    • It’s a nice strawman argument, but, Trump is still focusing on the criminal elements. Are you supporting the child molester illegals, Jeff?

  3. […] I have been seeing a lot of stories on the web about punishing “sanctuary cities”.  Stories like this one. […]

  4. Jeffery says:

You don’t understand facts. Actually the national polls had Hillary winning and she did garner over 3 million more votes than trumpy. How is the trumpy “presidency” working out for you?

Do you have evidence that the CNN poll was flawed? Didn’t think so.

I don’t believe any of the numbers in that, or any, poll like this

    Except the 78% number, LOL.

We also believe that any undocumented immigrant who commits a serious crime should be deported! We don’t feel that being present in the US is a serious crime. You do.

Most of the immigrants are hard working, law abiding residents – not rapists, murderers and drug smugglers as trumpy claims.

Do YOU think it’s a good idea to track down and deport 12,000,000 residents?

Well, that’s just it: if they are hard working, as in employed, they are breaking the law again if they are here illegally. If they are working for a legitimate business, then they must have provided forged documents and false Social Security numbers; those things are felonies, the very thing for which liberal cause célèbre Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos was convicted, and sentenced to deportation under President Obama. If they are not working for legitimate businesses, if they are working off the books for cash, they are evading income taxes.

Illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare, of course, but it seems that they get it anyway, usually through the mechanism of having an anchor baby.

The average household headed by an immigrant (legal or illegal) costs taxpayers $6,234 in federal welfare benefits, which is 41 percent higher than the $4,431 received by the average native household.

The average immigrant household consumes 33 percent more cash welfare, 57 percent more food assistance, and 44 percent more Medicaid dollars than the average native household. Housing costs are about the same for both groups.

At $8,251, households headed by immigrants from Central America and Mexico have the highest welfare costs of any sending region — 86 percent higher than the costs of native households.

Illegal immigrant households cost an average of $5,692 (driven largely by the presence of U.S.-born children), while legal immigrant households cost $6,378.

The greater consumption of welfare dollars by immigrants can be explained in large part by their lower level of education and larger number of children compared to natives. Over 24 percent of immigrant households are headed by a high school dropout, compared to just 8 percent of native households. In addition, 13 percent of immigrant households have three or more children, vs. just 6 percent of native households.

Even if the illegals are not rapists, murderers or drug smugglers, they are thieves, stealing money from the taxpayers.

Legal immigrants are supposed to prove that they will be economically self-sufficient for at least five years, but this is obviously not happening.

    • We also believe that any undocumented immigrant who commits a serious crime should be deported!

OK, then why are you and the rest of the Democrats, particularly in sanctuary cities, protecting those who commit serious crimes? Or don’t you think that homicide and child rape are serious crimes?

  5. Dana says:

The Department’s Office of Justice Programs budget is too small, when spread out over the departments which receive the grants, to be effective. As I noted here, Chicago receives $29 million in law enforcement grants from Uncle Sam, but over $1 billion, over 10% of its entire municipal budget, from the federal government. If the President holds that hostage, Chicago, and every other city, will cave.

  6. Dana says:

Dalia Maldonado is a legal immigrant, and now joint US/Mexican citizen, who is apparently very hard working. She sends about $250 every month to her family in Mexico, money which helps the family to survive. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

Well, it doesn’t sound particularly nice to me! That’s $3,000 every year that is removed from the American economy and just given to another country. In 2016:

Mexico received $27 billion in remittances — a record high and far more than what the country got from its oil exports, $18.7 billion, according to Mexico’s central bank. The vast majority of remittances sent to Mexico come from the U.S. and they support millions of low-income families in Mexico.

That’s $27 billion on which the velocity of money in the United States ground to a screeching halt, $27 billion which could have been supporting American citizens. American citizens are poorer than they’d be otherwise, due to these remittances. How many American jobs could have been created had that $27 billion been spent in the United States?

  7. Hank_M says:

    Good move by Sessions.
Don’t want to obey the laws, then you don’t get the money we allocate for it.
It’s also nice to see the DOJ concerned about upholding our laws again.

  8. John Glanton says:

    Dana,
I always like one of Trump’s early campaign ideas to tax the cash wire remittances sent to Mexico. I don’t like import duties because they are effectively a tax on Americans by raising the price of goods. But I like taxing the cash sent offshore because it’s a drain on the economy and has not benefit here, and most of it is gained in an untaxed, cash labor market.

  9. Jeffery says:

they are going to fight to support those unlawfully present in the country who are child molesters.

Most child molesters are white christian men.

  10. Jl says:

The whinny left apparently doesn’t remember the Feds strong-arming the states to change their speed limits to 55 or lose highway funding in the 70s. “Most of the immigrants are hard-working, law-abiding residents…” Except that we’re talking about illegal immigrants, not immigrants. And they’re obviously not law-abiding or they wouldn’t be here, and if they’re so hard-working then they’d work hard to come here legally. We always can count on J to fall on his sword in a comment.

  11. Jeffery says:

Not all white christian men are child molesters, it’s just that most child molesters are white christian “men” like dp and JG.

    • Rev.Hoagie® says:

Actually, MOST child molesters are people of color. They are predominant in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. In America most of the people are white so it would follow most child molesters would be too. But every child molested by an illegal is one that would not have been if Dumbass’ party wouldn’t have allowed him in and then to stay. Therefore, democrats and Dumbass support child rape by illegals or they would throw them out.

      #FakeAmerica

Cause a REAL AMERICAN would not support child rape by illegals like democrats do. Just for votes. Every illegal child rapist is an undocumented democrat. Every one.
