Horrific News: GOP Wants NASA To Focus On Space Instead Of ‘Climate Change’

Have you ever heard something so horrible?

Republicans Find Another Way To Derail Climate Change Fight

Republican lawmakers seem to have found yet another way to undermine the battle against climate change.

GOP members of Congress and officials with President Donald Trump’s administration want to shift NASA’s mission away from climate change research to focus exclusively on space exploration, according to a report in E&E News. Representative Lamar Smith, chairman of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, told E&E that he wants to “rebalance” NASA’s assigned duties since President Barack Obama’s administration cut funds for deep space exploration.

“Our weather satellites have been an immense help, for example, and that’s from NASA, but I’d like for us to remember what our priorities are, and there are another dozen agencies that study earth science and climate change, and they can continue to do that,” said Smith, a Republican from Texas. “Meanwhile, we have only one agency that engages in space exploration, and they need every dollar they can muster for space exploration.”

How terrible! How will those dozen agencies survive without one more replicating their (fabricated) data?

A case can be made both for and against NASA doing research into the climate, as we look at the original legislation that created the agency. Regardless of any arguments, the problem here is, first, that so many other agencies do the same research.

Secondly, what’s happened within NASA is that it has become pseudo-religious in it’s pursuit of pushing anthropogenic climate change while minimizing the aeronautical and space research it was tasked with performing.

The good news is that you and those whom you now know, likely including your children will be modestly affected by global warming. It’s a bit dicier for your grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but they’ll have to figure it out on their own with no help from this generation.

It’s clear that US leadership is lacking on global warming, at least for the next 4 years. It will be interesting to see if other nations continue to follow their consciences.

So-called president trumpy is attacking the EPA and NASA because they tell truths he finds inconvenient.

Anyway, the Earth will have to hunker down for at least 4 years, since even is trumpy is assassinated, resigns, is impeached and convicted or ousted by the 25th Amendment, his first runner-up Pence is also a science denier, as are the majorities in the House and Senate.

Yep, the potential disaster awaiting Oroville can definitely be chalked up to the “settled science” of the predicted permanent drought.
188,000 people now have had their lives disrupted because the politicians heeded the advice of the pseudo climate “scientists” and the leftist environmental lobby.

That is right Jeff, imagine what a tax can do to the climate. It would be great to see us improvised while we await the great benefit of such a tax. Of course, we will then have world government to enlighten us on what we are required to do. And, it is not 4 years, but 8. Trump is doing great and we are finally out from under the nut job Obama and his idiocy.

  3. Jl says:

Actually, there’s no proof CO2 will do harm except in unproven assertions that are always 10 yrs in the future

  4. Rev.Hoagie® says:

Dictionary of the future: Global Warming was a popular computer simulation game, where the only way to win was not to play.

    From Liberty’s Torch:

Scientists whose livelihoods and researches depend upon the blessing of the State are beholden to that State. They can be coerced into supporting the State’s agenda more easily than any other species of creature. Therefore, their pronouncements cannot be trusted until entirely private researchers provide peer review and confirmation of their results.

We would be far better off had the notion of government funded science never been conceived. It should have been treated as a hybrid between propaganda and witchcraft. The trap it provides for potentially honest, potentially productive scientists is attractive beyond belief. Worse yet, it snares the beliefs and attitudes of non-scientists with its veneer of “scientific authority” – yet another internally contradictory idea – more effectively with every passing year.

It’s one of the most lethal weapons in the arsenal of the State. It must be brought to a halt before it destroys everything we hold dear.

    “Reverend”,

More uninformed opinion from another uninformed conservablogger. Do you promote these pieces as authoritative or do you just have nothing to say yourself? As my uncle used to say, opinions are like assholes…

Poretto suggests that all research be funded privately, perhaps all climate research to be funded by Exxon, and all tobacco research by RJ Reynolds, LOL.

If you support ignorance you have a so-called president on your side.

    Jeff,
Actually, of the commenters here, I would say that you are the most “uninformed” as well as the most bigoted and the one that is clearly full of hate.

  7. Rev.Hoagie® says:

I’m so sorry your closed mind considers another opinion just “More uninformed opinion from another uninformed conservablogger”. It’s a shame to be so closed minded but that’s normal for you radical leftists from nazis to commies all you leftists are about power and shutting up everyone else. To align one’s self with nothing more than like-minded opinions and reject the others is to deny objective truth altogether.

Hence, you’re a reject. How’s that suit of human skin coming?

  8. The Night Wind says:

    Jeffery:
Climate change or not, this isn’t NASA’s job. We have NOAA doing most weather-related research already. NASA needs to get the US back into Space because Russia, China, and India are beating our butts in Space research and exploration right now. We’re no longer the dominant power in Space thanks to Obama.

    • Jeffery says:

      Night Wind,

Fair enough. The new administration is entitled to decide how to run their agencies. Based on trump’s positions on global warming do you think he’ll allow NOAA to continue their research on behalf of America?

Should space research be sponsored by government or should it be privatized as has been suggested for other research (climate, medical, biology, physics, chemistry etc)? Do you advocate more money going to NASA for space research?

What does it mean to be the “dominant power in space”? It can be argued that the catastrophes of Challenger (thanks to Reagan) and Discovery (thanks to W Bush) significantly hurt our programs. To be fair, it was under President Obama’s watch that NASA left Matt Damon on Mars.

  9. Rev.Hoagie® says:

We’re no longer the dominant power in Space in anything thanks to Obama.

    Fixed.

  10. Rev.Hoagie® says:

The good news is Trump seems to be getting us out of Obamas Great Recession. As Nestle moves out of the peoples republic of California we see what will Make America Great Again. It ain’t more leftist tripe.

This weekend I filed my 2016 Federal taxes, $116,000+ to pay for immigrants and welfare for democrat voters while veterans die at VA hospitals. What a mess these lying liberals have left in their wake.

  11. Jeffery says:

    “Reverend”,

You can’t be held responsible for your ignorance. As a conservative all you hear are lies and propaganda. Your nonFICA fed taxes support the military, Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, education, infrastructure and interest on the debt. Do only Democratic voters avail themselves of these services? Please explain then why Red states take more from the federal coffers than they pay in? Are only the minority Dem voters there using federal services such as Medicaid, defense protection, public schools etc? What percentage of national spending “pay(s) for immigrants”? Any idea? I didn’t think so.

Congratulations on paying in to help keep America great. You pay almost as much as we do, but much more than our so-called president! Why haven’t trump and the Republican Congress fixed the VA yet? They’ve attacked Muslims and Mexicans and Media, oh my! They’ve identified previously hidden terrorist attacks in Bowling Green KY, Atlanta and Sweden, but no time for veterans? The House holds the purse strings and have been dominated by Repubs since 2011. (in fairness, then President Obama signed a $16 billion VA bill that builds new facilities, hires more medical staff, makes it easier to fire negligent staff and officials and pays for the care of veterans in private facilities.) Over $180 billion is allocated for the VA in 2017, or about 5% of total federal spending. So you invested about $6000 in VA care! Great job. In your expert opinion, how much more should we be spending on the VA system? If it’s any consolation you’re on paying about $600 to support the weekly trump family vacations and federal protection of trump Tower. Since you voted for him that’s probably fair, but do you think it fair that the 54% who didn’t vote for him be forced to support his extravagant lifestyle as if he was Baby Doc Duvalier?

Note the Great Recession developed under the Republican W Bush’s watchful eye. Under President Obama’s tenure the stock market tripled, unemployment was cut in half, GDP growth went from negative to positive, even wages have started to creep up lately (a sign of full employment) and on and on and on.

That whiny little bitch, cowardly lyin’ trumpy was whine-bitching the other day that he inherited an economic mess, LOL. he (and America) should be glad he wasn’t inaugurated in 2009.

trumpy, the economic cretin, hasn’t had time to ruin the economy yet, but between him and the GOP buckle your seatbelts, it’s going to get bumpy.

Everything you wrote there is either a lie or an exaggeration. But I do comment your ability to view 8 years of recession and stagnation as “proof” of Obamas ability. That’s why thanks to Obama you lost the White House, the Senate, the House 37 state governorships and how many state legislatures? Obviously only people of your low mentality and economic education think that way or you’d be in charge. But, hahahahaha, you’re not because Obama was a phukin’ failure.

Thanks, for playin’ now go put on your suit of human skin you seditious bitch.

  13. Rick says:

Your unemployment figures are just like the climate data. They have been manipulated to give the wanted end results. If unemployment has been cut in half, then why has the worker participation rate plummeted?
As far as Trumps vacations go, he has a long way to go to match the taxpayers cost of Obamas vacations and sightseeing trips.
So you are upset that Trump hasn’t fixed the VA in a month after Obama ignored it for 8 years? I just heard a report today where doctors and staff have been stealing drugs from the VA for personal use and sale for years. At least 4 VA centers have been doctoring or failing to inventory drugs for at least 4 years.
I would say you are willfully uninformed.

  14. Jeffery says:

    rev,

You are as knowledgeable as your god-king, the accidental president. We acknowledge that 46% of the voters were as deluded as you in Nov. Now the number is below 40% – buyers remorse. trumpy lost by 3 million votes to a horribly flawed candidate. And the people that don’t support him actually hate in unAmerican ass. He’s one Secret Service agent with nothing to lose away from polonium poisoning.

    Remember, Hitler was also elected.

You’re either ignorant or lying. We get it. Conservatives believe Negroes are lazy, dishonest thieves. But the facts are clear. trumpy and his family spend as much in a month as President Obama and family spent in a year. You do understand there are 12 months in a year, right?

Do you have any evidence that the unemployment figures are manipulated? Of course not.

If unemployment has been cut in half, then why has the worker participation rate plummeted?

That’s non sequitur. In fact, a drop in worker participation in itself can lead to drop in unemployment rate.

We understand that right wing extremists hate facts and experts, preferring to get info from Rush and trumpy, but here’s a discussion on labor force participation, and reasons for the drop (no plummet):

    1) The aging of baby boomers. A lower percentage of older Americans choose to work than those who are middle-aged. And so as baby boomers approach retirement age, it lowers the labor force participation rate.

    2) A decline in working women. The labor force participation rate for men has been declining since the 1950s. But for a couple decades, a rapid rise in working women more than offset that dip. Women’s labor force participation exploded from nearly 34 percent in 1950 to its peak of 60 percent in 1999. But since then, women’s participation rate has been “displaying a pattern of slow decline.”

    3) More young people are going to college. As BLS noted, “Because students are less likely to participate in the labor force, increases in school attendance at the secondary and college levels and, especially, increases in school attendance during the summer, significantly reduce the labor force participation rate of youths.”
