Suddenly, The Permanent Campaign Is Problematic Because Trump

Politicians are in permanent campaign, and have been for quite some time. Certainly, Mr. Obama did this, even after his 2nd presidential election, and he wasn’t just campaigning for other Democrats (most of them who really didn’t want him around), but as if he was going to run for a 3rd term. Now, though, many in the Media Industrial Complex are complaining. I’ve caught a few tweets from them, and now this from Excitable Doyle McManus at the LA Times

Trump’s permanent campaign won’t help him keep his promises

In 1976, 10 presidential terms ago, an advisor to then-President-elect Jimmy Carter told him he should keep campaigning forever, even after his inauguration.

“Governing with public approval requires a continuing political campaign,” Patrick Caddell told Carter. The doctrine became known as “the permanent campaign,” and every president since has followed it.

President Trump has now extended the principle even further than his predecessors: He seems to think “permanent” means “constant.”

Hmm, so we’re going to change the language to complain? Cute. But, why is it “constant”?

Most new presidents use their inauguration to move forward, appeal to opponents for a joint effort at unity, and set some clear goals for the next four years.

Not Trump. He’s still stumping. After stretching his campaign past Election Day with a series of raucous victory rallies, he gave an inaugural address on Friday that replicated, in only slightly more elevated language, the pitch that helped him win the presidency.

In other words, Trump said in his inaugural address that he intended to do the exact things he said he would do during the campaign. As John Hinderaker wrote, if you thought he was kidding, think again.

Of course, what McManus means is that Trump, like other GOP presidents, is supposed to abandon his campaign promises and work to enact the Democratic Party agenda.

His speech reprised all the themes that built a successful insurgency among mostly white, mostly middle class voters. He didn’t say or do much, if anything, to try to expand his coalition. There was no explicit outreach to the majority of voters who didn’t choose him in November. Most important, he didn’t signal how he plans to get anything done.

Pro-tip: you lost. You know who has to change? You! The winners don’t have to change their promises and beliefs for the losers. We had this notion rammed down our throats during the Obama years. So, deal with it.

As far as outreach goes, Trump said “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,” and that January 20, 2017 “will be remembered as the day that the people became the rulers of his nation again.” Obviously, Progressives are unhappy about returning power to the people.

trump will learn from this weekend (we all hope) to concentrate on being President to all Americans and not just the 40% that support his every word.

He gave a speech Sat whining about (and lying about) the crowds at his inauguration. He ordered his press secretary Spicer, and spokescobra Conway, to defend him.

trumpelthinskin can only get better, we hope.

Don’t forget that 54% of voters did not vote for trump. he will eventual learn to govern a majority that does not support him.

he IS the US president, but his support is weak.

What is it about these leftists that cause them such animosity toward white middle class citizens? You know, the people who open small businesses, work at their jobs, build a two parent family, pay their taxes and fight our wars and who don’t take joy in crime, drugs and anti Americanism.

When did the people who actually founded and built America become the enemy?

  5. drowningpuppies says:

“Whether we can beat any of them, that will be up to Republicans,” Schumer said.

Doesnt matter how many voted for him……its how many SUPPORT HIM……..

    Monday, January 23, 2017

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 55% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President-elect Trump’s job performance. Forty-four percent (44%) disapprove.

the most honest and accurate polling on the planet despite the lefts insistence that its a right wing polling apparatus.

Another example of total MSM BULLSHIT.

    Quinnipiac poll.

Trump “will be a worse president than Barack Obama, 45% of voters say, while 34% he will be a better president and 15% percent say he will be about the same, according to the Quinnipiac University Poll released Tuesday.

Trump enters office on Jan. 20 with a favorable rating of 37%, the poll said; Obama exits the White House with an approval rating of 55%.

READ THAT…….45 percent say worse then Obama……51 percent say better or THE SAME AS OBAMA…….yet……..his approval rating is 39 percent……….What lying cocksuking MSM Marxists.

  7. Liam Thomas says:

The MSM really thinks the American VOTER IS STUPID………….the people are watching……

1 million are protesting…….319 million ARE NOT…….they are watching….they are waiting and in 2018 they will decide who served them better……..Obstructionist Democrats who oppose jobs, rebuilding the inner cities and rebuilding our military while securing our border and homeland……….or the GOP who passes these bills and gets jobs and communities thriving again………

The Democrats need to get their shit together…they are listening to George Soros and Michael Moore who have said they will primary any democrat working with Trump…….good…..not only will the left have no incumbents running……they will be massacred at the polls once again……

At some point the left needs to realize how drastically far left they have become to the point of being out of touch with 80 percent of the American voters no matter which side of the isle they are on.

  8. trump will learn from this weekend (we all hope) to concentrate on being President to all Americans and not just the 40% that support his every word.

Yeah, I remember how Obama worked to be POTUS for all. He was even nice enough to have the IRS have conversations with them!

Don’t forget that 54% of voters did not vote for trump. he will eventual learn to govern a majority that does not support him.

Man, if only Hillary had ran a campaign that used the established rules to win. Sucks to be you.

What is it about these leftists that cause them such animosity toward white middle class citizens?

If people talked about Blacks, Latinos, etc, like liberals talk about whites, Progressives would demand a National Conversation.

“With this decision, the president has taken the first step toward fixing 30 years of bad trade policies that have cost working Americans millions of good paying jobs,” Teamsters Union President James Hoffa said in a written statement.

Someone else approving of Trumps performance.

  11. AndyG55 says:

Jeffles is STILL refusing to accept the American Constitution.

He is like most dumbocrats.. he HATES the constitution. and HATES the USA.

Trump is the DULY ELECTED POTUS..

    GET OVER IT. !!

  12. AndyG55 says:

They have always been the enemy to America HATERS like Jeffles.

“With this decision, the president has taken the first step toward fixing 30 years of bad trade policies that have cost working Americans millions of good paying jobs,” Teamsters Union President James Hoffa said in a written statement.

combine this with Obamas crushing the Pipeline which the union wanted and would have provided up to 42k jobs and you have to wonder how many Union Members are going to be voting for Republicans in 2 years when Trump starts returning Union Jobs to the unions.

While the Democrats run around crying and throwing fits and making up shit about Trump and the right….the right is going to be busy creating jobs for both UNIONS and non unions alike….rebuilding our infrastructure, rebuilding the inner cities and hopefully offering Americans affordable healthcare for all that doesnt put so much burden on americans as to crush them…..Tax cuts mostly for the middle class…

Meanwhile back at the DNC they cowering at Michael Moore and George Soros threats of primary challenges to anyone who works with the Repubs…………good……….It shows how fuking stupid Michael Moore is and why anyone would listen to him and call him a left leader is mindboggling.

  14. Jeffery says:

Actually trump did a good thing, canning the TPP and wants to amend NAFTA, international trade deals that mostly redistribute wealth from American workers to American capitalists. Most of the so-called “free” trade deals strengthen international patent rights for us American capitalists, e.g., extending the length of patent exclusivity making things like prescription drugs and devices more expensive worldwide for common folks and enriching the companies that develop and market drugs (and tech stuff).

So although trump’s action may harm my company a bit, I still favor his action on TPP, since it’s better for America.

Americans pay about $300 billion a year more on pharmaceuticals than a true free market requires. That extra $300 billion goes to the pharma industry, patent attorneys, marketing execs, distributors etc.

Hoagie asks: “When did the people who actually founded and built America become the enemy?”

If you mean white folks, we are not the enemy. But neither is this just a nation for white christians. Native Americans, African-Americans, Jews, Chinese-Americans, Mexican-Americans etc etc etc etc have all contributed mightily to the nation. Sometimes against their will. The enemies of the white working class are not Blacks, Jews and Mexicans – our enemies are the political donor class – the Wall Streeters, the DC elites who keeping enacting laws and policies that steal from the poor and give to the rich. The politicos and their supporters who shift the tax burdens from the wealthy to the working classes, allowing the wealthy and corporate elites to use loopholes to avoid any income taxes, that insist the working classes compete with overseas workers but protect their own well-paying occupations, that blame Social Security and Medicare for bankrupting America but forgetting to look at 40 years of tax cuts for the wealthy.

  15. Jeffery says:

    Laim,

trump has said he wants to make America Great Again, but he has offered little to make it happen. How will he rebuild the inner cities and get jobs and communities thriving again? Will he back $trillions in infrastructure? Re-training? How will he do it? What bills can Congress pass to “get jobs and communities thriving again?”

More likely is that the business cycle beyond his control will increase unemployment from its current low, his tariffs will spawn inflation, repealing the ACA with cause uninsured to increase, crime will increase from its current low, more tornadoes will ravage the south, the recent bump in wages will likely level off etc

Much of this is out of the control of the US President. You’re right, though – the American people will be watching as Congress slashes at Social Security and Medicare, hacks away at health insurance, cuts taxes for the wealthy and corporations and adds to the debt. All the while their real goal will be to blame the other guys as they always do.

  16. drowningpuppies says:

Son, you’ve got a pussy on your head.

  17. Jeffery says:

There are at least two camps battling in the trump White House regime. One, led by Bannon, is the take-no-prisoners alt-rightists, who wrote his vile inaugural address and led to trump’s bad, bad Saturday at the CIA and with poor Sean Spicer. The other, the Machiavellian group, led by Prince Rebus and Kellyanne Cosplay, tries to evaluate how trump’s actions play out politically. They won starting Sunday, engineering trump’s kinder, gentler demeanor and Spicer’s almost-an-apology for lying. The Machiavellian’s aren’t more humane, they are just better politicians. They keep trump off the twit machine. By nature, trump is more of Bannon shoot-from-the-lip hypersensitive type, but Kellyanne keeps him “more presidential”. “Mr. President, you don’t need to answer every criticism personally”.

  18. Liam Thomas says:

Even if what you say is true Jeffery your judging trump on the actions of others now…..

Even Jimmy hoffa came out and endorsed one of Trumps first actions as prez……one you criticised because if The right does it then the left is against it……

by the time 4 years are up the left is going to be pro life, anti-gay, gun-toting liberals who want to start a war with Mexico at the rate you guys are going.

  19. Liam Thomas says:

What I see happening Mr. Jefferson is an administration that is not loaded with Career politicians trying to deal with a politically charged atmosphere. I like it….I get it…..Its a welcome change from the double talking, lying bastards that have been running government since George Washington wrote that the people would have his head a year after he won the Revolution for America…

  20. Jeffery says:

    Laim,

If you’re talking about TPP, Obama was largely by himself. Even the corporatist Clinton opposed it by the time she was nominated, because the Dem voters insisted. Sanders opposed the TPP from the get go. Progressives largely opposed it, and Congress was mixed.

We doubt that progressives will turn into racist, anti-abortion, anti-civil rights conservatives anytime soon.

Conservatives seem to strongly believe in foolish consistencies, the hobgoblin of little minds. As Nobel laureate economist Paul Samuelson famously said, “Well, when events change, I change my mind. What do you do?” If you refuse to be convinced by solid evidence to change your mind, what hope is there?

Today trump announced they wouldn’t deport the illegal “Dreamers”, absolutely illegal aliens occupying the US illegally. What part of illegal doesn’t trump understand? Doesn’t the rule of law dictate that these illegal Mexican occupiers be deported ASAP? Are you upset that trump has apparently changed his mind? If you accept his position does that make you a proto-liberal?

trump is the President and must take responsibility for the actions of his troops. His schizoid behavior between Sat and Sun is disquieting but he may be learning how to act like a US President.

  21. drowningpuppies says:

Son, you still have a pussy on your head.

  22. Jeffery says:

    Laim,

You may be right. Let’s hope trump grows into the job. It was a good sign that they sent Sean Spicer out today and that he was much less antagonistic (although his complaints that press coverage of the inauguration was “demoralizing” to the prez was a bit weird).

    Anyway, we’ll see.

  23. AndyG55 says:

“We doubt that progressives will turn into racist, anti-abortion, anti-civil rights “

No. they will probably stay as democrats who are racist, anti-AMERICAN, anti-civil rights.. like you.

  24. AndyG55 says:

“Don’t forget that 54% of voters did not vote for trump”

Don’t forget that TRUMP won by a MASSIVE MARGIN under the American constitutional rules.

Californicate and New trough make up that but a small majority,

The rest of America.. the people who actually do the work and don’t HATE America… like you do… voted for Trump

You KNOW that.. but you DENY the constitutional method of the electing POTUS

That makes you totally anti-American.. denying the constitution.. is there any LOWER step you can take????

Move to North Korea Jeffles, if you want socialist totalitarianism.

  25. Liam Thomas says:

A group of labor unions has also reportedly filed a lawsuit in a federal appeals court, in an attempt to stop the change.

The legal argument about the Obama administration’s decision is that it violates a part of so-called Open Skies agreements that state unrestricted flights among countries are not intended to “undermine labor standards.”

More of Obama’s last minute Fuk the working man rulings….and screwing over the very unions and working man that supported him and the democrats TWICE……

Im telling you if the Democrats dont fight their own idiocy there is no way they dont continue to make themselves irrelevant on the national stage as the GOP takes up the mantle of the left and right with everything except social issues which is all the left has left now.

  26. Liam Thomas says:

Are you upset that trump has apparently changed his mind? If you accept his position does that make you a proto-liberal?

trying to justify the good things Trump does and take credit for them on the left huh……ITs what the left has to do….they have to say it was our idea to do these things……They have to make themselves relevant somehow…..

When trump begins working on the inner cities they will horn in and make themselves relevant and as soon as they can go back to calling him HITLER……..

The best thing Trump and the right can do is keep the left on the outside looking in on everything……they are either all in or all out….you cant pick and choose and then take credit…..because unlike OBAMA whose was a populist movement that never was very popular except among the 40 percent left…..this is a movement that embraces left and right ideas……either put up or shut up but dont take credit for something you havent done shit about for decades.

  27. Rev.Hoagie® says:

Jeffery, if you don’t understand how anti white and racist the democrat Party has become just watch this short video of Democrats explaining just how anti white they are.

BTW, white people all across the Fruited Plain see this racism and will turn away from the Dem party. Nobody wants to feel hated by their own party, not even Dems.

  28. Hank_M says:

    What a video Hoagie.
It also verifies that most racial tensions in this country are caused by white liberals.

  29. Rev.Hoagie® says:

Hank_M, they are the most self-hating group of idiots I’ve ever seen. And it’s all relatively new. They haven’t always been anti white racists. They became anti Christian when they decided the false god of “Choice” was more important than the morality of a fetus’ life. They became anti white when the post racial president made being white not cool. But now they are alienating married women, white working class people and the entire middle and upper middle class who has to pay for their bull shit. They are people driven by emotion like little girls.
