Those people saw no hope and change. Obama’s America is one of stagnation, low wage jobs, division at all levels, a government that attacks it’s citizens while hooking up Iran, etc and so forth. Back in February, Peggy Noonan wrote about the Protected vs The Unprotected
But I keep thinking of how Donald Trump got to be the very likely Republican nominee. There are many answers and reasons, but my thoughts keep revolving around the idea of protection. It is a theme that has been something of a preoccupation in this space over the years, but I think I am seeing it now grow into an overall political dynamic throughout the West.
There are the protected and the unprotected. The protected make public policy. The unprotected live in it. The unprotected are starting to push back, powerfully.
The protected are the accomplished, the secure, the successful—those who have power or access to it. They are protected from much of the roughness of the world. More to the point, they are protected from the world they have created. Again, they make public policy and have for some time.
Go back and read it again. Seems rather right on the mark. People voting for what they perceive as the guy who will protect them. Why do you think the drain the swamp call resonated with so many?
Of course, the Dems will not accept why they failed. They will simply blamestorm.

All one has to do is look at the SEA oF RED in the Rust Belt to understand whats going on.

AS I said Liam: “For the most part”. Not all manufacturing jobs will go but the human cost in wages, benefits and regulations have become too high in the US. The unions have priced themselves out of the market with wages and bene’s and the government has regulated everything to death. The only companies that can afford to manufacture here any more either have huge government contracts or huge government grants or huge government subsidies. I have several friends in manufacturing and they all have said their time is past. One guy who manufactures windows and doors moved to Mexico. Others have said the company will end with them. I’m not in manufacturing so I’m just repeating what a few guys who are have told me and my observations as a businessman of what is going on.
As for Trump or any other President bringing back or creating jobs that’s just silly. It’s a no brainer when the dumbass leftists say it so it’s ridiculous for a Republican. Presidents don’t create jobs. Except government jobs.
Is there any evidence that a great number of Obama 2012 voters voted for Trump. Certainly the total votes between 2012 and 2016 prove it wasn’t necessary for ANY Obama voters to vote for Trump.
Romney got more votes in 2012 than did Trump in 2016. The pundit class penchant for spinning yarns is misleading us all again. There was no groundswell for Trump, it’s just that Dems could not be bothered to vote this time. They may have thought that Trump couldn’t win, they may have been tired of Clinton after all these decades.

2016: Clinton 59.5, Trump 59.5
The media narrative that an eruption of angry whites overwhelmed Clinton doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Dem voters stayed home, most traditional Repubs voted, some stayed away, and some alt-net morons also showed up. There is no new coalition – just two lousy candidates.
