Bummer: By Almost Every Measure, Things Are Looking Good For Polar Bears

Another “OMG, Doom!!!!” talking point/prognostication from the World Of Climatology has bitten the dust

Polar bear population bounces back despite climate change warning

Dr Susan Crockford said: “On almost every measure, things are looking good for polar bears.”

In a report for the climate sceptic Global Warming Policy Foundation, she said: “Scientists are finding that polar bears are well distributed throughout their range and adapting well to changes in sea ice.

“Health indicators are good and they are benefiting from abundant prey. It really is time for the doom and gloom about polar bears to stop.”

Dr Crockford, of the University of Victoria in British Columbia added: “Polar bears are still a conservation success story. With a global population almost certainly greater than 25,000, we can say for sure that there are more polar bears now than 40 years ago.

“The global estimate is too high to qualify the polar bear as ‘threatened’ with extinction.”

Whelp, there’s that WAG talking point thrown off the cliffs. We’ve been treated to a litany of doom regarding polar bears (which are more than happy to attack and kill humans) and “climate change” for quite some time, but especially since Al Gore included the so-called plight of the polar bear in his idiotic movie “An Inconvenient Truth“. Yet, we keep finding that the reality bears little resemblance to the truth.

Let’s be clear: this doesn’t mean that the Earth is not in a warm period, one in which Mankind plays a small part, mostly through agriculture, landfills, UHI (Urban Heat Island Effect), and land use. It simply means that life adapts. Like it always has. Because the Earth changes. Always has.

BTW

All 50 states of America will see snow this week as the nation is plunged into the coldest month for decades.
For the first time since 2010, meteorologists predict two snow storms barreling through the country in the next seven days will engulf Florida – a usually snow-less state.

It comes as cold weather records continue to fall across the country, with February declared the coldest month in New York for 81 years.

The average temperature in the Big Apple over the last four weeks has been 24F – 11 degrees below normal. New York joins other metropolitan areas such as Chicago and Pittsburgh, which have also experienced their most frigid February in decades.

As the mercury continues to plummet, ice breakers are being deployed by the US Coast Guard to create ferry and shipping lanes along the Hudson River in New York and the Delaware in Philadelphia.

According to The New York Times, it has not been this frigid in New York since February 1934.

And the snow heading towards Boston could break the cities all time record for the season. Obviously, Cultists will blame this on “climate change”. They already are blaming “extreme” winter storms on too much heat. Perhaps we need to change what the definition of insanity is.

Looking good for polar bears? My astrology climatology charts beg to differ. If I’m reading them correctly, polar bears will go extinct right around the time Al Gore said that the arctic would be ice free – some time in late 2013 I think.

  2. Jeffery says:

Susan Crockford is a polar bear “expert” funded by the Heartland Institute, a Climate Denier organization. She claims to use this as her data source (she is not a polar bear field researcher):

The argument made by actual scientists and environmentalists is that polar bear habitat degradation (not even Dr. Crockford Denies this) will lead to the migration of bear populations. As winter sea ice extent continues to decrease the migrations will increase. Can polar bears adapt to a largely ice free Arctic? Time will tell.

  3. jl says:

As said before, what does the source of her funding have to do with anything? Seems to be a very large organization funding the alarmist’s side, don’t you think? “Can polar Bears adapt to a largely ice-freeArctic?” Can the general public adapt to another alarmist “prediction” that won’t come true?

  4. Kevin says:

I’m amazed that Susan Crockford is a climate denier. How can someone deny that there’s a climate? I suspect that Jeffrey is fibbing again.

  5. Hank says:

I believe all those once concerned about the plight of the polar bear should head up to Hudson Bay to feed them. This is best accomplished by strapping fresh pork chops onto your body and marching right up to the nearest polar bear.

  6. Jeffery says:

    Kiven,

Why invoke me when discussing whether you think Dr. Crockford is a climate Denier? Are you that starved for attention? Are you that refractory to discussing the topic at hand?

  7. Kevin says:

    Jiffrow,

I only mentioned you because you claimed the woman denied that there was a climate. It’s a pretty silly comment, so I called you on it.

It’s just yet another example of why no one takes your seriously, Jaffor. You believe there are people in the world who don’t believe there is a climate. How ridiculous is that? Also, you can’t spell people’s names correctly, Jitrew. It makes you look less intelligent than you probably are.

  8. John says:

Kevin could you provide a cite for Gore saying that ? Everything I found seems to use the word could not would. Misquoting is wrong, one must be careful not to do
Of course Kevin always mentions Gore he never seems to mock the US Navy for saying that by as early as 2020 the Arctic could be ice free

  9. Kevin says:

I actually don’t know if Algore said ‘could’ or ‘would’.

Just for the record though, you are saying you are ok with Gore menacingly saying the arctic ‘could’ be ice free in five years, but you would not have been ok with him saying it ‘would’ be ice free in five years?

Are you a lawyer or something, John?

  10. John says:

Teach and Kevin never seem to want to go and check on anything in primary sources. It is just easier to cut and paste from some fascist ( the bad kind) shill
Dr Crocker is an “expert” in evolutionary polar bears, never ever goes into the fieldThe polar bears in the Beaufort Sea have taken a big hit in numbers they are considered the population most in danger of sea ice reduction
Perhaps Teach you might actually post something on how the different populations of polar bears are doing and why some like the Beafort bears are struggling
    Or not

  11. Jeffery says:

    Kevin,

You seem quite upset about your name being misspelled. I’ll be as careful spelling your name as you are with mine. I just transcribed a couple of letters, which can happen to anyone, even you.

It’s a little thing, but would you be so kind to point out where I described Dr. Crockfort as a climate Denier?

  12. Kevin says:

“It is just easier to cut and paste from some fascist ( the bad kind) shill”

So there’s a ‘good kind’ of fascist, John?

You do make a good point though. The battle lines are drawn. We know the idiotic statements made by the crazy left like Algore or Obama and you know the idiotic statements made by the often equally ridiculous right like Ron Paul or Chris Christie. There’s no need to look for ‘primary sources’. We all know where we stand.

It’s just that you and Janfrow stand on the ‘idiot’ side of the line. I know it’s insensitive to laugh at you because of it. But it’s hard not to. I apologize.

  13. Jeffery says:

    Kelvin,

It’s a little thing, but would you be so kind to point out where I described Dr. Crockfort as a climate Denier?

  14. Teach and Kevin never seem to want to go and check on anything in primary sources. It is just easier to cut and paste from some fascist ( the bad kind) shill

So, you consider the UK Express a “fascist” shill, John? Perhaps you could give us a “primary source” that contradicts the material from the UK Express. You made some allegations, and provided no actual links.

  15. Deserttrek says:

the polar bears are doing just fine jeffery and john …. don’t think so, go up to one and ask him or her .. the burp willl say it all

  16. Kevin says:

Nah, I don’t care that you misspelled my name, Jethrow. It just adds a humorous way to respond to you. I’ll stop doing it if it bothers you. It’s only for fun.

As to your question, you didn’t just say that the doc denied there was a climate. You said an entire company of people did! A new level of ridiculosicty.

“Susan Crockford is a polar bear “expert” funded by the Heartland Institute, a Climate Denier organization.”

  17. Kevin says:

Oops. I spelled ridiculocity wrong :(.

  18. Jeffery says:

    Thanks for admitting your error.

  19. Kevin says:

When you commit an inaccuratidity, it’s important to own up to it quickly. It was hard to admit my mistake, but in the end, I think we all benefited.

  20. Phil Taylor says:

Polar bears are not on the endeangered species list.
Polar bears hunting is still legal.
They are on a political created “watch list” after failing to be put on the endangered list by activists.

Here again is a CBC news story about polar bears. Only a few minutes long. It tells both sides. See the people who monitor weigh and tag polar bears. Hear their comments.
CBC is ethier unbiased or left wing leaning. Funded by the Government. Make up your own mind. But watch first. Do not make up your mind ahead of time!

  21. Kevin says:

For the record, the CBC is VERY left-leaning. I’m very impressed that they allowed this report to go on air. I’ll betcha someone got fired over this.
