Will Derrick Ward Be Next On Progressive Truth Squad Hit List Over Michael Sam Tweet?

On the bright side, the neither the NFL nor any team can do anything to him, since he retired

(NJ.com) Former Giants running back Derrick Ward wasn’t the only person on Twitter commenting about new Rams rookie Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend after hearing from St. Louis. He also wasn’t the only one who was critical.

Here’s what the Super Bowl winner wrote:

Many have been trashing Ward for *GASP* holding a non-compliant opinion. Now, let’s look at what happened to Miami Dolphins player Don Jones

Miami Dolphins defensive back Don Jones was fined an undisclosed amount and suspended from team activities in the wake of two tweets Jones sent out that were critical of Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend (note: I cleaned up a bunch of misspellings, something that sadly occurs quite a bit on NJ.com)

“We were disappointed to read Don’s tweets during the NFL Draft,” Dolphins coach Joe Philbin said in a statement that announced the suspension. “They were inappropriate and unacceptable, and we regret the negative impact these comments had on such an important weekend for the NFL.”

Jones — who has since made his Twitter account private — will be allowed to rejoin the team once he completes “educational training.”

Jones tweeted out “omg” as the video of Sam embracing his boyfriend, Vito, aired on ESPN after the St. Louis Rams selected Sam — the first openly gay NFL prospect — in the seventh round. Jones then responded “horrible” when asked if the first tweet was in reference to Sam.

Got that? Suspended and forced to undergo “educational training” for holding an opinion, as well as apologize. Granted, the Fins can do what they want, it is a private company. Erik Erickson is correct when he wrote (several times) that You Will Be Made To Care.

One would think that the Dolphins would have more important concerns. They haven’t broken .500 in the last 5 seasons. They’ve made the playoffs just 3 times since 2000, after Dan Marino retired. Six plus .500 seasons from 2000 through 2013. They haven’t won a playoff game since 2000. Six different head coaches from 2004 forward. Issues with QB’s since Marino retired. Quick, name a high profile Fins player! But, hey, mean tweet. #priorities.

No Teach YOU don’t get it. Holding an opinion is one thing, putting that opinion in a uniform is quite another. How would you handle an employee who tweeted controversial opinions WHILE TIEING IT TO YOUR STORE??? I mean you will not even state for the record exactly where you work, how would your boss feel if YOUR opinions hurt his bottom line?

  2. Bob says:

    WTF?

All these poor widdle wusses getting their feelings hurt over a disapproving comment concerning an action that was in actual fact, unnatural.

Regardless of how anyone may feeeel about all this man/man, girl/girl, man/boy stuff, survival of the species is nature’s number one prime directive. Any action or activity that runs counter to that is by default, unnatural, and as such, should be actively discouraged, not trumpeted as some new normal. It is not.

  3. Jeffery says:

A private business has concerns that the actions (not the opinions) of an employee will harm the business. Now Teach wants new job-killing regulations limiting the business decisions of a private company. A private business has the right to expect certain behaviors from its employees.

But look how far we’ve come. Twenty years ago conservative cementheads would have gone apeshit crazy over a black and a white kissing.

If you make controversial statements you can expect to be criticized. It’s called freedom.

Maybe Newt Gingrich is right. Gay people need to show more understanding and acceptance toward those oppressed conservatives who hate, mock and ridicule them. Why are gay people so intolerant of those that wish them harm?

Regressives don’t hate gay marriage, they hate gay people.

But then, regressives hate everyone that is different from them – Gays, Blacks, Muslims, Mexicans, Agnostics… it’s a long list.

That settles it. If I had any doubts before, with just these few sentences, I am now completely convinced that you really are an idiot.

And the irony of using hate and bigotry to accuse others of hate and bigotry is completely beyond you.

    Nighthawk,

I see you didn’t refute my comments – but only resorted to name calling. You may be right, perhaps regressives don’t hate everyone, perhaps you discriminate against others for fun.

    Nighthawk,
It is no use. Don’t even try. His anger, bigotry, misogyny, racism, and utter hatred of all things related to freedom is beyond help.

We’ve all tried to talk sense in to J (IMHO both Jeffery and John are same person) but he refuses all forms of logic and reason. His religion of idiocy firewalls him from all normality.

Don’t let J bring you down too.
