Pot Smokers Left Tons Of Trash on 4/20

Is it any surprise that a celebration of smoking pot (4/20), which would involved mostly Lefties, would result in mountains of trash? It seems that most rallies, demonstrations, protests, gatherings, etc, which involve mostly Lefties tends to result in environmental damage.

(SFgate) After the masses departed and the smoke cleared, workers descended Monday on Golden Gate Park to bag up and truck away all that was left behind by those who celebrated the pot holiday of 4/20 – an annual event that again tested the patience of some residents and city leaders.

While thousands enjoyed Sunday’s informal smoke-out, police arrested 11 people around Sharon Meadow, and paramedics tended to four others. Traffic in the area was jammed all day. And officials estimated the cleanup cost would exceed last year’s tab.

“Our goal is to provide clean, fun, safe parks, and there’s a lot about this event that certainly isn’t safe, and it’s certainly not clean,” said Phil Ginsburg, the general manager of the city park department, as he watched employees scoop up piles of trash.

It cost the city $10,000 just to clean up the park last year, and they expect cleanup costs to be higher this year. As one of the commenters notes “What a way to spend Easter Sunday and the beginning of Earth Week!”

Again, I don’t care if people want to smoke pot. My personal opinion is that it should be legalized and regulated. Taxed (though I have no problem with people growing their own for personal consumption). The use in public should be restricted, so that other people are not getting contact highs. And I really don’t have a problem with pot smokers descending upon a park to celebrate. I do have a problem with them leaving a frigging mess, and possibly causing problems with people and families who simply want to enjoy a park.

Gotta laugh at liberals. They don’t care that the people use mind-altering drugs in public, but then get upset when they don’t use that mind to think clearly.

  2. John says:

Wow Teach 10000$ is a lot of money isn’t it !!!
Of course the average daily cost of maintaining Golden Hate Park is more than 60000$ per day 20 million divided by 365 days
And if YOU want to show off your math skills tell us all how much those damn hippies cost each resident in The City
Also I failed to see any mention of “mountains” in the article you cited. Did you just make that one up ????

  3. Nate says:

Read an article a couple days ago about Colorado’s Legislature trying to decide how they’re going to spend all the pot-tax money; guess we know now, don’t we?

    Tell ya what john……

Since you think $10,000 is a paltry sum, go ahead an pony up a check for it.

We won’t hold our breath for that.

But it is amazing that while you try and say how great “green projects” are, you are happy to sit under your bridge thinking that garbage on common areas is a good thing – or at least not a concern.

(By the way john, the Navy says it is against trash on the ground. Are you more of an expert on trash than the Navy? Why are you disrespecting the Navy?)

Finally, your point on the “mountain” of trash shows a real lack of understanding of anything to the point where it cannot even be addressed in a serious manner. It is that ridiculous.

  5. John says:

GC 10000$ is insignificant to the Golden Gate Park budget
Boy you just can’t get over that fact that the USN has now officially joined your list of despised believers in AGW Have you had a chance to look at their newly updated Arctic Roadmap ? Probably not I’d guess.
    GC is now sadz

  6. jl says:

John-My, this gets old. Is the USN a person or a collective? Because if you’re referring to it as a collection of thousands of individuals, then your statement is total BS, as I’m sure you haven’t polled all the service men/women. If it’s the Navy brass you’re talking about, well, that makes it irrelevant. “Have you had a chance to look at the updated Arctic road map?” No, have you looked the Antarctic one?

  7. gitarcarver says:

    Oh john, where to begin?

First, trying to justify the expenditure as a percentage of the budget for the park shows a complete lack of understanding of both budgets and money.

By your own figures, 1/6th of the money for maintenance for the entire huge park for that day had to be allocated because people of your ilk are slobs who don’t care about the very ground upon which they walk and sit.

Secondly, the percentage doesn’t matter because you are talking about a non-budgeted item. That money has to come from somewhere, john.

So whether it was money that would have gone to another project such as a refurb of a playground, a part-time job for someone, or even the money going back in to the city’s reserves the money could have been spent on better projects if people of your ilk had not trashed the public area.

From your view under the bridge, you believe that there is a “money tree” that all a city or government has to do is to go out and pick $10,000 off the tree.

Real life doesn’t work that way and the fact that you don’t get that fact shows how totally clueless you are.

As for the USN, I know that you hate having your fallacy exposed. That’s the point. Your knowledge of the military and specifically the USN could fit on the head of a pin and leave room.

    Sorry troll, you lose again.

  8. Jeffery says:

That same day US conservatives dumped 400 Billion pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Who’s going to clean it up? Conservatives? LOL

  9. gitarcarver says:

    There ya go Jeffery….

You try and make some moral equivalence to excuse people trashing a place by saying “look what is happening here….”

All you have done is show your own hypocrisy.

(Which is nothing new for you.)

  10. Jeffery says:

It’s called perspective. Try it. The pot smoking dirty fooking hippies are tax payers so they pay for part of the clean up.

Why do you expect everyone else to pay for the clean up of the tons of CO2 you and all the other dirty fooking conservative deadbeats dump into the atmosphere every year?
