NC House Votes To Return Many Gun Rights To Citizens

This should drive Joe Biden nuts: instead of restricting the gun rights of North Carolina citizens, the NC House voted to extend them

(WRAL) State House lawmakers voted late Monday night to allow concealed weapons on college campuses, state property, greenways, bike trails, at sporting events and in businesses that serve alcohol.

Proponents of House Bill 937 says it protects and expands the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens while increasing punishment for those who use guns in the commission of crimes. It also requires more rapid reporting of mental health adjudications to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, in accordance with federal mandates.

Guns will not be allowed in classrooms. Local municipalities can no longer ban concealed carry or other gun restrictions, except on municipal property. The penalties for use of guns in crimes, including accidental discharge, have been increased, as have those for people who leave a gun in easy access to a child 12 and under. The owners and event holders at bars and venues are allowed to determine whether they will allow guns on property.

Obviously, Democrats and those in charge of the University of NC college system are having hissy fits, but

Sponsor Rep. Justin Burr, R-Stanly, said recent reports of campus crime illustrate why students and faculty with concealed carry permits should be allowed to have firearms locked in their cars on campus.

“This doesn’t allow them to carry in the classroom,” Burr said. “Please tell me why in the world we would want to prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves.”

Oh, come on, Justin, coeds on campus should be just fine with rape whistle, as well as urinating or vomiting on themselves.

But, he makes a good point, one which most liberal gun-grabbers won’t be able to answer in an adult, thoughtful manner.

Democrats submitted5 amendments which were all shot down. The legislation passed on party lines, and will now receive a final vote on Tuesday. It should pass easily, though I expect more histrionics from Democrats.

I wonder why you can carry a gun anywhere, “except on municipal property”. That implies that concealed carry is dangerous and the politicians are protecting only themselves from it. Doesn’t it?

Teach, you have GOT to fix your comments section. It doesn’t make sense for me to have to type in my name and email every time I want to make some mostly pointless statement.

The momentum is shifting in our direction now. If you haven’t already done so, go to NRA.com and buy a one-year membership. I did yesterday. It was fast, easy, and cheap. NRA has just picked up a million new members thanks to Obama. Every new member counts. Put your money where your mouth is, take a stand and fight alongside these guys. Think of this – we’re actually having THIS CONVERSATION now – we’re talking about LOSING OUR SECOND AMENDMENT – it’s actually come to this. Take a stand now before it’s too late.
Thanks for PC for covering this story, too. Keep up the great work!

  3. You mean with the pop up comment box? Or in individual posts? I know with the popup comment box I have to enter my stuff again, usually just click on each box, info is retained. I’ve never been able to implement something with the popup that remembers, even for registered users. Maybe I’ll play with the development blog to see if I can get it to remember.

    I am considering using Disqus.

The popup comment box has remembered my name for years, up until about 3 weeks ago.

And the comment box on the RSS links (I think it’s the same one, but doesn’t ‘pop up’) also remembered it. Now they don’t. Are you saying you haven’t changed any code in the last month?

    That’s weird, if so.

  5. I’ve updated a bunch of plugins, but that was like a week and a half ago (made one of my mobile formatting plugins stop working correctly.)

I’ve had to re-enter, simply by clicking on the boxes, in the popup comments box for at least a year or so. Not sure why. Could be plugin and/or WordPress upgrades.

I’ve put the code back in that allows people to login with various social media sites. Not sure what happened to it, disappeared at some point.

Of course it makes sense for law abiding citizens to be able to take guns to hockey games, or into court rooms. The problem is that sometimes law abiding gun carrying citizens become non law abiding citizens carrying guns. I would like to see a reduction in that number. Law abiding veterans kill themselves with guns 4000 times each year. I would like to see that number reduced.

A Toga Party with guns ??? AWESOME

  8. PS: I’ll see if I can do something with pop up box, either have the easy login stuff or find a way to force memory. Probably something to do with a plugin

John obviously has no idea how stupid and lacking logic that statement is as it can be transferred to anything.

“The problem is sometimes law abiding citizens driving cars become non law abiding citizens driving cars.” (Let’s suspend the right to travel!)

“The problem is sometimes law abiding citizens speaking become non law abiding citizens speaking.” (Let’s suspend the First Amendment!)

“The problem is sometimes law abiding citizens become non law abiding citizens by possessing something.” (Let’s suspend the Fourth and Fifth Amendments!)

“The problem is sometimes law abiding citizens using baseball bats in a game become non law abiding citizens using bats.” (Let’s ban all sports!)

I would like to see a reduction in that number. Law abiding veterans kill themselves with guns 4000 times each year. I would like to see that number reduced.

Enacting more gun controls would increase – not decrease – that number john. Studies have begun to show that people will not seek mental health help if you label them crazy or start to take things they own.

That means the very solution you propose will mean more deaths of vets, not less.

Once again your liberal policies will result in blood on your hands which shows you don’t give a rat’s patootie about the vets of this country.

    Teach,
The PC will remember my name and email so long as I have your PC page open in a browser. Then each comment I wish to make, the comment window pops open in separate window and my info is there. When I close down the PC page, it forgets it. One of the reasons I’ve been using numerous names of late. For each time I visit your site and have your page in a browser.

Could it be a cookie thing?

There in the beginning if you recall, about 3 weeks ago or so, it would not even remember info from one post to the next. Then about a week later it started remembering, but only so long as you kept your page open.

Hey john, what are the percentages of people who legally registered their guns, got a carry permit, and who were later arrested for a gun-related crime? compared to the total number of people with carry permits?

  12. Interesting. Firefox doesn’t even remember my info in pop up with browser open. And I’m the admin.

Could be any one of 7-8 plugins that cause it to happen.
