(Washington Examiner) A 10-year-old Alexandria boy was arrested after police said he brought a toy handgun to school on Tuesday, a day after he showed it to others on a school bus.
The boy, a fifth-grader at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School whose name is not being released, was charged as a juvenile with brandishing a weapon, police said.
He was also suspended from school, and Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Morton Sherman said further action is being considered, including expulsion.
On Monday, the boy showed the plastic gun to at least one other student during a bus ride home from the school. The 10-year-old did not point it at anyone or threaten to shoot it, but he neglected to mention that the weapon was fake, said Alexandria police spokeswoman Ashley Hildebrandt.
The toy resembled a semi-automatic handgun, said police spokesman Jody Donaldson. It was silver and had a black handle. It also had a orange tip that went into the barrel, showing that no ammunition was coming out of it.
It’s a toy, most likely designed to shoot tiny rubber pellets. I have one myself based on a Walther P99 (I also have the real thing). The kid is 10. Yeah, he should have really left it at home, much like most kids’ toys should be left at home, but, he’s 10. The school even went as far as to send a letter to all the parents to let them know, I guess, that a tiny terrorist with a fake plastic gun was apprehended.
These people need to get some common sense. Take the toy away, calmly explain to the child that he should leave toys at home, and move on.
In related news, a 7 year old was suspended from school for throwing an imaginary grenade in a game about saving the world.
The “orange tip” mentioned in the article is there by law and designates the thing as a toy. The child didn’t “neglect to mention” anything. The toy itself was screaming it was a toy and those in authority were too stupid and ignorant to listen.
And too unhinged and hysterical too bother to find out what it was. They probably ran around like they had cooties at the very sight of this fake gun.
He might as well learn now. Guilty until proven innocent. He must go to the police department prior to purchasing said “toy” gun to notify the police that he would be purchasing said item, then request permission to file permission to purchase, complete the permission form, and then request submittal of form prior to purchasing of said item. Then, he would submit 3 forms of ID and 3 copies of said granting of purchase rights to store where he desires to purchase said item.
Upon successful universal background checks by the FBI and the UN and the Human Rights Court, said person is now able to purchase said item.
Prior to exposing said item to public view, person must go back to the police department to inform them that said purchased item is indeed not an actual weapon. A declaratory form is filed and 3 witnesses are conscripted to verify the veracity of the said purchaser’s declaration upon pain of imprisonment.
Once formal and public declarations are posted on national law enforcement boards and major anti-weapon media outlets, said purchaser is then allowed to display said purchased item in public but only on their property and only under direct law enforcement supervision. Such law enforcement supervision can not be related genetically or legally to said displayer of said purchased item.
