Boston Globe: Biden Should Apologize For “Chains” Remark

The Boston Globe isn’t exactly a bastion of conservatism: in fact, it tends to lean quite left. And the editorial board isn’t as amused by Biden’s remark as so many other Democrats are

When Vice President Joe Biden warned a Virginia rally of hundreds of African Americans that Republican efforts to loosen bank regulations meant “They’re going to put y’all back in chains,” Stephanie Cutter, Team Obama’s deputy campaign manager, said the president would have “no problem with those comments.”

But imagine if Republican Paul Ryan uttered comments like that. Mitt Romney’s pick for vice president would be pilloried for racial insensitivity — and so would Romney. In the fight for civility and substance over pointless hyperbole, Biden may not be the worst offender. But he’s an offender nonetheless, and he should apologize. (snip)

Liberals routinely dismiss Biden’s gaffes as the rhetorical excesses of an overly exuberant speaker — it’s “Joe being Joe.” And there can be something appealing about a politician who throws caution and the script that goes with it to the winds. Yet when conservative speakers get overly exuberant and cross a rhetorical line, they are presumed racist or culturally insensitive, rather than refreshingly free-spirited. One standard should apply.

There should be one standard, but as long as Democrats have free reign to say whatever they want and get away with it because 90% (that number could have dropped a bit since the study came out, but certainly not by much) of the media votes Democrat, there won’t be one standard.

Joe Biden has been given pass after pass for his comments, while Republicans have been assaulted, which is easy when the media is complicit in the politics of personal destruction.

Will we get an apology from Joe? Will he say “sorry”? We can put it in the doubtful to good luck with that category. Democrats are allowed to be bigots, insensitive, and racists because they just want to help the people they are being bigoted, racially insensitive, and plain insensitive to. his vorpal sword is a good example, utterly trying to protect Biden.

Powerline wonders why Team Obama didn’t walk back Biden’s comment, and comes to the conclusion “These are plausible explanations, I think. But we should also consider the possibility that Obama affirmatively wants to stand by Biden’s race-baiting.”

When Biden first made his stupid remark (stupid is the kindest word I can come up with to describe what he said), the Obama campaign tried to blame the Republicans in the House. Something about the way they were talking about “unchaining” American businesses. Isn’t it just totally funny how they try to equate the two phrases?

  2. “Imputation” and “interpretation” are different words for a reason.

  3. Another fun word to add to the mix is “hypocrisy”.

Blacks are NOT going to vote for Romney, actions speak louder than words.

<Blacks are NOT going to vote for Romney,

    Ho hum….

President Barack Obama is rapidly losing support among African-American voters in North Carolina, a new poll out today from the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling shows.

The poll finds that Mitt Romney would get 20 percent of the African-American vote if the election were held today, compared with 76 percent for Obama. Overall, Romney has a 48 percent to 46 percent lead on Obama in the crucial swing state.

Obama received 95 percent of the support from African-Americans in North Carolina in the 2008 election, compared with just 5 percent for Republican nominee John McCain.

Obama’s support is slipping and Romney’s is gaining.

At the same time, reality is invading john’s world.

hey, drive by racist commenter #4.

Ok, so this is another “context” issue? We are taking Biden, this time, out of context? This time, it makes no difference. Either way, it was a racially charged metaphors.

Either he was referring to republicans as wanting to put blacks in chains, reminescent of when democrats (mainly) pushed to keep blacks in chains during slave days … or he was being metaphorical about republicans wanting to enact direct, specific, and punitive legislation against blacks.

Either way, its is racist and wholly insulting, repugnant, and unbecoming of the administration of the President of the USA.

How about we have some reporters analyze both sides of this argument. Democrats pushed to maintain slavery. Democrats had KKK members in their ranks. Democrats are continuing to push that their minority constituents are incapable of self-reliance. Democrats are refusing to assure voters’ votes are legal and matter. Democrats pushed to force banks under excessive legislation that forced bad loans to certain segments of the lower income\highly susceptible population.

It was republicans who wanted time and time again to have gov’t agencies audited. Republicans wanted to end corruption in DHS, FHA, and Freedie & Fannie. It was republicans that are pushing jobs bills, reduction in spending, reducing the deficit, reducing taxes, increasing accountability.

Democrats are nothing but racist selfish narcissists.
