LGBT Activist Files Human Rights Violations Complaint Against Chick-fil-a

Yet another case of liberal tolerance on display

(Chicago Phoenix) The Civil Rights Agenda, a local LGBT rights advocacy group, filed multiple complaints with the Illinois Department of Human Rights Thursday, alleging that the Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A restaurant chain’s “intolerant corporate culture” violates Illinois law and a provision in the state’s Human Rights Act.

“In our current high speed media and social media environment, Chick-fil-A has announced and caused to be published, to hundreds of millions of people, that LGBT people are unacceptable and objectionable,” said Jacob Meister, Governing Board President of TCRA and the attorney who filed the complaint. “They have made it clear the lives of LGBT individuals are unacceptable to them and that same-gender families are unwelcome at Chick-fil-A.”

Anthony Martinez, executive director of TCRA, contends that Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy’s recent comments reiterating his opposition to same-sex marriage were more than just his own thoughts and that he was speaking on behalf of his company, stating the views as company policy.

Hmm, I wonder if the Civil Rights Agenda will file a suit against Islamists, who think gays should be stoned or hung. Probably not. Liberals tend to tolerate those who practice Sharia law, which tends to treat gays and women poorly, allows honor killings, and holds the belief that people should either practice the Islamist way, be dhimmis, or be killed. Actually, that last part sounds much like Liberalism, without the killing part. Though, admit it, lots of liberals call for killing those who do not agree with them.

Meanwhile, there’s a humorous extension of the Chick-fil-a appreciation day

(Politico) Chick-fil-A customers who showed up in droves Wednesday to back the chicken chain’s opposition to same-sex marriage are literally mailing in their support now.

As same-sex marriage supporters plan a nationwide “kiss-in” Friday at Chick-fil-A, a conservative nonprofit is urging attendees of Mike Huckabee’s “appreciation day” to send their receipts and empty fast-food bags to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Boston Mayor Tom Menino, both of whom have said the restaurant isn’t welcome in their respective cities.

I’m sure there are a few others to whom the receipts can be sent to, such as Chicago Alderman Moreno and D.C. mayor Vincent Gray.

  1. I’m not defending these bastards, and I don’t want to defend these bastards. So don’t take this as anything suggesting that their abusive lawsuit has merit. It doesn’t.

But neither does this silly line of argument:

“Hmm, I wonder if the Civil Rights Agenda will file a suit against Islamists, who think gays should be stoned or hung.”

It’s a convenient tu quoque based on . . . nothing at all. Do you know of any Islamist-owned corporations doing business here in the U.S.? Because I’m certain that the Department of the Treasury would like to, seeing as how the funding for all known Islamist groups are subject to seizure under U.S. law.

So this is a bullshit argument. Yes, this activist group is wrong. No, gays are not hypocrites for failing to sue non-existent Islamist groups. Do better.

  2. john says:

Teach liberals do not like Iskamists and are intolerant of their beliefs. Conservatives have much more in common with Islamists than do liberals. Abortion, womens rights, homoexuality etc Islamists ARE conservatives, they are not liberals. As far as Islamists doing business with the USA, tehy have major holdings in all of our giant multi national corporations.

  3. I take your point, Gabriel, but it’s not about gay groups in general, it’s about Liberal groups, including GLBT ones, who mostly fail to ever condemn the activities of Islamists in their treatment of gays, among others.

  4. Ken says:

This whole thing is hogwash and I did some research:
The name was redacted because the complainant is a hypocrite. How do I know? You can see his name in the upper right on most pages: John Zaharakis, 44 y/o, owner of the gay bar Cocktail in Chicago. They regularly have mostly naked men dancing for the customers, so his claim to be a Christian is more propaganda. His lawsuit doesn’t even state he entered a Chick-Fil-A. Also, look up the Illinois statute. You read further and it plainly states the free exercise of religiously based views shall not constitute a civil rights violation! There’s no record of him having a daughter with his partner, Dusty Hoffman.
But the most hypocritical thing about this all is that his bar discriminates against straight women…they even have a sign! CFA doesn’t bar anyone from their restaurants in ANY way, but John will. Don’t believe me, just google discrimination and Zaharakis. Many of the gay blogs that talk about it even admit that it’s discriminatory. So where’s Rahm & Moreno now? Public records also reveal 15 liens/judgments from the IRS, the state, and private individuals – one of whom was the General Manager of Cocktail! The most recent liens were on July 16, 2012. This is the same day he alleged he felt discriminated against. Someone needs money badly.
This is the best complaint they could muster? The suit itself is baseless and the complainer is the one who should be sued. The arguments these GLBT extremists have are hollow and sensational. Just question their sources before believing the hype.

  5. Gumball_Brains says:

So Gabriel, there are no businesses in America, even Michigan, that are owned by people whose religion is Islam? Are you really saying that? And can you really say that if there are, that none are believers in Sharia?!?!?

You can do better Gabriel. BTW, someone sounds angry….

    From posted article:

Please define and cite. Please denote how you yourself (the complainant) were violated by Chick-fil-A’s “corporate culture to the point of being duly affected and harmed?

If it is just because the owner has a certain religious belief, then its time to grow a pair – and not fondle them.

“In our current high speed media and social media environment, Chick-fil-A has announced and caused to be published, to hundreds of millions of people, that LGBT people are unacceptable and objectionable,”

What does the HiSpeed internet and social media have to do with anything?! How did Chick-fil-A find all of these people’s email addresses or social addresses? Did they actively go out and berate them for being homosexual? How did chick-fil-A know that they were homosexual?

And please denote and cite the exact conversation and by whom stated that members of LGBT organizations are unacceptable? In what context were the people found to be objectionable?

Till then, quit being so intolerant.

  6. Pam says:

Are you for real? Islamists have major holdings in this country. I will tell you exactly why gays don’t sue them: because they are little cowards and are afraid their heads will be lifted if they do. They are afraid names are being taken. Gays wrongly perceive Christians to be easily bullied. They (gays) are looking more and more desperate every day, and this pathetically ignorant lawsuit is the most lame act yet. That is power to Mr. Cathy.

  7. Good points, Pam, though I would change one thing, and that is we are talking about Liberal gays.
