GOP Introduces Bill To Repeal Incandescent Light Bulb Ban

Of course, this might be too late, as the last major makers of incandescent bulbs have already shut down in the USA. But, hey, at least we’ll be able to use ones made in China, rather than CFLs made……in China. It’s called personal choice, alarmists.

WASHINGTON: Reps. Joe Barton, R-Texas, Michael Burgess, R-Texas, and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee, joined 12 other Republicans to reintroduced the Better Use of Light Bulbs Act or BULB Act, H.R. 91.

The BULB Act repeals Subtitle B of Title III of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which is a de facto ban on the incandescent light bulb.

Oh, and for some major league alarmist stupidity

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.): “There is a case to be made that, in the contest between corporate profits and children’s lungs, someone should be standing up for children’s lungs.”

Yeah, because it’s not like we need CO2 for life or anything. Hey, Sheldon, no breathing out, you might damage children’s lungs.

  1. John Ryan says:

actually he was talking about things other than CO2 such as mercury in and 25% of the yes votes came from republicans in the House In the Senate only 23 Republicans voted against it. Most energy companies GIVE AWAY FREE CFLs so that they will not have to build more power plants. Duke Energy has such a program which may be your electric company. http://www.duke-energy.com/freecfls/default.asp?utm_source=webpromo&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=IVRWEB

  2. I really hope they can repeal this act of insanity. As someone with a severe mercury allergy AND epilepsy….I was looking at reading by candlelight.

  3. captainfish says:

I would rather suffer through a higher level of plant productivity than having the govt tell me that mercury ingestion is mandatory for my children.
