Maybe Letterman can have his writers write a joke about Obama’s brother Samson who was banned from the UK for child molestation and lying/deceiving detectives. That would be funny. Maybe Leeatherman can write a funny joke about Samson in the whitehouse–on the prowl. That would be funny. Double standards.

So should one be upset that NOW didn’t release a bigger and bolder statement of support for Palin and her daughters, or should one be more outraged at the MSM for not reporting it?

Also, note that Dave’s apology was really a non-apology apology, ala Seinfeld. But no one wants to call him on it. He couldn’t give a sincere comment saying that the joke was over the line and inappropriate. Personally, I think regardless of whether he was referring to Bristol or Willow the joke was out of line. I would also like to suggest that had a conservative made this remark they would be, at the very least, subject to “sensitivity training”, but a lefty says something and we all need to ‘lighten up’ because it was just a joke.

Aside from the joke not being funny, I think the main issue here is that no one stepped up and commented that this was out of line. I seem to recall something many years back where someone on the right (perhaps it was Johnny McCain) made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and her dad actually being Janet Reno. People went nuts over it. Now I could turn around and say, yeah, but it is true, have you looked at Chelsea’s horse-face??? But the truth is that it wasn’t really funny, and what had Chelsea Clinton done to merit such a rude remark?

A better comparison would be if someone made a joke, not about knocking up Obama’s daughter, or Michelle looking slutty, but if someone had made a joke about Obama picking cotton, or referred to Michelle as Aunt Jemima. We all know that whoever would have made that joke would be on the front pages for a month.

The problem isn’t that someone made a rude, inappropriate joke, it is that no one has the stones to step up and say that perhaps that was over the line. Face it, clowns like Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and Bill Maher are going to make lame, unfunny jokes at the expense of conservative politicians. That’s fair, they are public figures and need to deal with it, especially if you are going to be dealing with a national media as we saw in the ‘08 election. But there is really no reason to drag a family member down into things as a way of eliciting a response. How many times did you see comedians tearing into Bubba’s, skunk-headed, trailer park mother? I guess the ‘politics of hate’ only applies if you are a Republican (wasn’t that part of the ‘change’ in the hope and change we were promised?).

Some leader on the left, or at the very least, some national organization,such as NOW, or the national center for missing and exploited children, needs to step up and say, ‘that’s not really funny and was very inappropriate’. However we all know that they only do that if a lefty gets wronged.

I can’t help but not understand when someone tries a “if this was obama’s daughters …” shtick. Obama does not preach abstinence only and neither of his daughters got pregnant at 17 yrs old.

Oh give it up, Teach. You know good and well that the right has just as many people making remarks that are uncalled for. No, I don’t necessarily care for Letterman’s joke, but I don’t think it was a big deal, either. It was a joke. He’s a stand-up comic, of sorts. If Limbaugh or Hannity said something about Michelle Obama, as you suggested, that might be slightly different, because they present themselves as news sources (even though they are not even close). However, if Letterman said something disparaging about Michelle Obama, as a joke, I don’t think it’d be a big deal, either.

You have to admit that Palin has the whole “hot for teacher”, flight attendant look going on. That’s just true. And Bristol did get knocked up, though I think his joke was a bit out of line.

Don’t get your panties in a wad. The world is not out to get you. Relax and laugh about it. You’ll feel much better.
