I remember back in the 80's when it was a concern, and advertisements made a big deal out of MPG. Now, they tend to be about how cool a car is, and how many cupholders they have. Rather sad. One of the vehicles I had been looking at was the Ford Escape Hybrid, but, was a bit costly, and wasn't quite sure of the cost for charging it. Why buy a hybrid if it will cost more? My next car (like my current ones) will have to make it over the mountains in OR 2-3 times a month, where in winter you get boatloads of snow. We also heavily traffic mountain roads in the summer to hike where we need high clearance. Oh, and we tow stuff quite a bit. If a small hybrid SUV can tow 2500 lbs. and clear 6"-8", I'll be all for it. Otherwise, another Subaru. Cars are based on use, and I'll pick the best mileage, longevity, and cost for my use.
