People taking sensible, practical steps on their own to conserve energy and improve efficiency should be part of any comprehensive energy plan. It is a straw-man argument to say this is Obama’s only solution.

I disagree with your analogy on Dads. My Dad either answered the questions I asked or showed me how to find the answer on my own.

He is Dad, mbp. And like Dad when asked why the sky is blue, he never really offers any solution.

Seriously, Silke, are you falling for this tripe of an energy plan? It's absurd. As a suggestion to help a little, great. As a plan, to put in bluntly, it is f'ing ridiculous.

No one is asking because the answer is self-evident. Obama’s suggestion (and by the way it is a suggestion from our own energy department) helps everyone because the more people that do it, the less fuel is used overall thus increasing the potential supply for everyone and driving down the costs.

but here is a question no one seems to be asking Obama... if I already keep my tires inflated and tune up my car on a regular schedule (which I do BTW), how does this "suggestion" help? His retort only is applicable if you don't take care of your automobile in the first place.

Been there, done that. Please don't tell me you are buying that tripe, Silke. For someone who states they are a Conservative, you sure are getting sucked in by prettiness with little substance. His plan will provide for almost no new power.

Teach said: He is offering nothing concrete that will provide more energy and lower costs. Pretty sad for a presidential candidate.

Yes he is, and it’s not that hard to find:

http://www.barackobama.com/pdf/factsheet_energy_speech_080308.pdf

Here’s the bottom line:

The Bush Administration estimates that expanded offshore drilling could increase oil production by 200,000 bbl. per day by 2030. We use about 20 million bbl. per day, so that would meet about 1% of our demand two decades from now. Meanwhile, efficiency experts say that keeping tires inflated can improve gas mileage 3%, and regular maintenance can add another 4%. Many drivers already follow their advice, but if everyone did, we could immediately reduce demand several percentage points. In other words: Obama is right.

As I understand it, Obama was asked by someone what that person could do to help control her energy expenses. Obama did something Republicans can't, he told her fact-based truth. She can control the efficiency of her vehicle. It will cut down on her costs without affecting her lifestyle or making the oil companies rich. Of course the republicans can't allow anyone to threaten the profits of the oil companies at the expense of some old lady, so they mock it.

Obama has more to his energy plan and anyone can go onto his site to review it. Of course that would be facts, which might kill a republican.

You are missing the point, Silke. This is part of his energy plan, which, is great for what what Dad tells you, but not a country. He is offering nothing concrete that will provide more energy and lower costs. Pretty sad for a presidential candidate.

It’s disappointing to see McCain mock Obama’s suggestion to help save energy by keeping tires properly inflated. Though it’s by no means a complete solution it really can make an immediate difference and it’s something the Department of Energy and NASCAR have urged Americans to do.
