John is serious, Patrick.

Personally, I want to see a longer term trend in cooling before I come to the conclusion that we are in a cooling trend. There was a quick upturn from the late 70's through about 1998, then it was mostly stagnent. Time will tell!

Thanks for coming by, Patrick, hope to see you more!

John
I followed your link to NOAA website - the April data as presented for the USA is mainly blue (signifying lower temp than normal?); Furthermore if you ignore the +/-2 degrees F regions, clearly there are more colder than warmer regions. Even in their summary they state:
"The average temperature in April 2008 was 51.0 F. This was -1.0 F cooler than the 1901-2000 (20th century) average, the 29th coolest April in 114 years. The temperature trend for the period of record (1895 to present) is 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit per decade. "

As a first time visitor to this site I am not sure if you are daft or doing this tongue in cheek.

But, there lies in the problem, John. Science is not consensus. Once you start relying on that, it becomes sociology.

BTW, for whatever reason, Akismet pretty much is stopping almost every comment that includes a link. I'm sure you see that I have rescued them, but, it can take a few hours.

Manbearpig
Gosh guys you have to give me a chance but sure this one will be easy as always when you to choose to cherry pick.Let's see oh this is temps for the lower troposphere well I am sure that has some significance..... but let's see what our National Ocean and Atmospheric Agency has to say about the global climate shall we ?
Well the latest that they have posted in April, since we are only 3 days past May, but they say that again April was well above normal and that the sea temp was the 9th warmest ever recorded.
Instead of grabbing some facts of the internet why don't you just go to where the best and most easily understood analysis is ? for me that is NOAA
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/2008/perspectives.html
You guys are always coming up with something that sounds like "a scientist in Russia says that we are going to have another ice age" or The troposhere is cooling !!

No comment from John Ryan yet about how your interpretation is incorrect, or links to wikipedia pages? I'm shocked, this has been up for half an hour already.
