Morning, y’all, Jebediah Murphy here on another fantastic White Trash Wednesday. And, I gotta say, all them liberal climahysterics (also known as climahypocrites) are really going to hate the Pope and religion even more. Why, you ask?
Pope Benedict XVI has launched a surprise attack on climate change prophets of doom, warning them that any solutions to global warming must be based on firm evidence and not on dubious ideology.
The leader of more than a billion Roman Catholics suggested that fears over man-made emissions melting the ice caps and causing a wave of unprecedented disasters were nothing more than scare-mongering.
The German-born Pontiff said that while some concerns may be valid it was vital that the international community based its policies on science rather than the dogma of the environmentalist movement.
His remarks will be made in his annual message for World Peace Day on January 1, but they were released as delegates from all over the world convened on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali for UN climate change talks.
Well, I reckon the Pope is correct. It does need to based on science, rather then hysteria, hypocrisy, junk science, and a need create a world wide socialist paradise. Oh, and let’s not forget getting lots and lots of moola out of gullible climahysterics. Why else promote carbon offsets rather then just, ya know, advocating stopping the problem? I reckon we can’t say that all liberals are idiots, since a few, such as Michael Moore and The Goracle, know how to siphon money out of moonbat pockets.

“The industrial-military complex up on Mars can’t be blamed for that,” he said in a criticism of Australian scientists who had claimed that carbon emissions would force temperatures on earth to rise by almost five degrees by 2070 unless drastic solutions were enforced.
Well, I reckon they are getting that anthropogenic climate change is based more on hysteria, and hypocrisy, then science.

We must be able to launch negotiations for an international agreement by 2009 with a clear agenda,” the U.N. chief told an afternoon press briefing following the opening of the High-Level segment of the Climate Change Conference.

John, it is not about the climate changing. Only an idiot would claim it never happens. What we are discussing is anthropogenic climate change, which is dishonest, at best. To use your own words, it is utterly preposterous to believe that the climate could change nowadays only because of Man.

the church didn’t like copernicus much either for that matter. the church and science…brilliant. it amazes me that the deniers are generally the same people who are willing to lose 4000 troops and borrow over two trillion dollars in order to depose a guy that posed absolutely no threat. but faced with the vast majority of the experts on the subject saying man’s contribution to climate change poses a signifigant threat…they will grasp at any straw to deny it. like i said…amazing.

What’s utterly preposterous is that you would disavow hundreds of climate scientists who seem to think the evidence overwhelmingly points to that very conclusion based on a pitiful handful of public deniers.

the pope has deeply held convictions ok — about superstitions…i’m not sure how that qualifies him to pass judgement on scientific matters. the historic record of the church in scientific matters is suspect to say the least. you can refuse to argue the merits, but be careful about gross generalizations…not all who care about the environment are liberals…you deniers are an extreme fringe. but like i said, i do like the pointy hats.

People should stop being hard on the Pope. Sure he has some bizarre beliefs (he’s a global warming sceptic despite the near unanimous consensus of scientists and peddler of 2,000 year old creation myths). How many 80 year olds do you know still even hold down a job?
John Ryan, yes, I do believe Man is having some influence, particularly in the realm of agriculture and ocean pollution (that would be a very long explanation.) But, climate change is mostly natural.
Demonethes, consensus does not make something real. Remember, at one point the consensus was that the Earth was flat. Interestingly, there really is not a consensus, no matter how many times you climahysterics repeat it. You have to do a lot of interpretation to read an anti-climate-change message into the text. I think the Pope might be surprised by this whole discussion.

Scientifically this was disproved over 2,000 years ago by Eratosthenes. To compare a lack of knowledge among the general populace to modern science is absurd. You are only revealing your own ignorance on what science really is when you keep making this statement.
By the way, your post and the article it is base on are highly misleading. No one on either side of the debate would disagree that reason and science should guide decisions, but that does not mean the Pope denies anthropogenic warming. In fact Vatican City became the first fully carbon-neutral state in the world this year.

And, yes, the earth was scientifically proven to be round. Which is more then can be said for man made global warming, which relies on those deep scientific words like “likely.”
