I know of know woman or man, liberal or conservative who would sanction such actions on anyones part. In today's Washington Post is an article about Muslim girls in Baghdad being threatened by Mahdi Army brats with this same practice. The unintended consequence of our killing, arresting or frightening away the leaders and middle leaders of the Mahdi Militia is 12-15 year old boys stepping in to those roles and creating what at first looks like a new Taliban in Iraq. It is one thing to have strict codes of dress, it is another and intolerable that murder is the penalty.
