You are entering a dimension of defeat. Of surrender. There is a signpost ahead. You are entering……. The Reality Based Zone (via Hot Air)
(The Politico) Democrats are increasingly bailing on their previously held view that the troop surge in Iraq has been a “failure,” but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid isn’t ready to jump on the bandwagon with other Democrats who say the surge has worked.
The Senate re-opened for business on Monday after a two-week Thanksgiving break, during which key Democrats traveled to Iraq and declared that the surge is working, at least from a security and military perspective. Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), one the top war critics, stunned fellow Democrats late last week with his statement that “the surge is working,” even though he added that political reconciliation has been lagging. Murtha’s view was backed by Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.), who also said the surge worked after he returned from Iraq.
But Reid, in a Monday press conference, ceded no ground.
“The surge hasn’t accomplished its goals,” Reid said. “… We’re involved, still, in an intractable civil war.”
Gotta love Old Yellow Stain. He refuses to believe any good news coming from Iraq, instead, staying with the same old tired talking points from the Nutroots. Does he believe them or is he just afraid that said Nutroots will come after him, as they do any other Democrat that acknowledges that The Surge is working and that America needs to leave Iraq with a win?
Is it politics? Or true belief? Will Dingy H ever acknowledge the progress made this year? Doubtful. If When the Iraqi government finally comes forth with reconciliation and oil revenue sharing plans, when the military and police are able to operate independently throughout the country, what will he say? How will he go about with retreat?
When bastions of liberalism, such as the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the L.A. Times, have said that the Surge is working, and let’s not forget all the great people in our military who say it is working, one must wonder what reality Reid is living in. And whether he is stuck in it like Burgess Meredith in that Twilight Zone episode where he is the only man left, so he can read all he wants, then breaks his glasses.
Haystack at Red State: Really Harry…are you feeling ok man? You might want to get that checked, before it progresses beyond modern medicine’s ability to heal you up and make you all better.
Rob Port at Say Anything: You’ve got to give him credit for one thing, though. It takes a special kind of dishonest lout to look out upon the public and issue a straight-faced lie of that magnitude.
