Science is not an arena for debate. Scientists do not sit around and debate what they think should be happening or what processes should be driving natural phenomena. Scientists, in general, are not fond of debates as there is nothing to debate. If you have the data showing something, you accept it unless you have good reason to limit its applicability or you have better data.

Why does every post about Al Gore winning the Nobel Peace Prize almost instantaneously turn into a Democrats vs. Republicans war? Nobody outside the USA could care any less about your politics. The award was given the Gore and the UN for their work on climate change.

If you disagree, so be it. Give reasons why their work is not useful. Give reasons why climate change may not be happening. Do not make pointless ad hominem attacks on Gore (“Soreloserman” in an above comment, “climahysterics”, etc).

Speaking of liars, your attacks on the IPCC are inaccurate. You claim that the panel is mostly not comprised of scientists. This is misleading as it make it appear that the IPCC’s work is not based on science. You fail to mention that the IPCC makes its decisions on the basis of peer reviewed scientific papers. That is, scientists writing about science, reviewed by other scientists, and then published for the scientific community to comment and follow-up on. You also fail to mention that over 2500 scientific expert reviewers were involved in the process of creating the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report.

Your critique of the Nobel Peace Prize is, to be honest, pointless. The only critique that can be leveled at the Peace Prize is that, unlike the other Nobel prizes, it is given far too early within an individual’s career, often the same year or closely following on from their humanitarian work. The other Nobel prizes are awarded as much as 20 years after the work done by the scientists is published, allowing the full impact of it to be seen. Of course, this could be because the Nobel committee feel it more pressing to award Peace Prize work being done now, perhaps to encourage more of it.

Let me ask you this, if Gore had been a republican, and he had lost to a democrat in the 2000 elections, would you be writing this post?
