TTLF: Move On To Continue Attacks on GOP: Write The FEC

It is another beautiful Thursday in America, still a bit thirsty, almost time for some weekend beer! And (Never)Move On is going to continue to attack Republicans

Gen. David H. Petraeus isn’t alone as the target of an ad campaign by the group MoveOn.org.

Moveon.org, criticized in recent days for a newspaper ad questioning the general’s character, has spent more than $2 million against nearly a dozen Republicans since last year, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.

The group spent more than $100,000 this year against Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. It also poured money into efforts against nearly a dozen Republicans locked in mostly close congressional races last year, federal records show.

MoveOn.org ranked third in the country among political action committees in total receipts from January 2005 to June 30, 2006, with $14.1 million. The group trailed only the pro-Democrat Emily’s List, which took in $20 million, and the Service Employees International Union, which reported $14.4 million.

Now, it might be that I woke up just a short time ago, but I do not think my confusion is out of place. According to the Federal Elections Committee, MoveOn.org Civic Action is 501(c)(4), in which an organization may engage in lobbying on legislation, but is not allowed to intervene in political campaigns in support of or opposition to any candidate for public office.

Now, Move On Political Action may engage in raising funds for specific candidates. But, Move On Civic Action Committee, as a 501c4 may not advocate for any poltician. Yet, the website MoveOn.org, is the main link for both the 401c4 and the PAC, and does, in fact, advocate defeat of candidates (Republicans, of course,) which would be against its 401c4 status. That would sure seem to blur, if not break, the lines between the two organisations.

What can you do? Write the Federal Elections Committee. Ask for an investigation. It is high time to hold the far left organizations, designed simply to smear people they do not agree with, accountable. They are playing games by using their main website to grandstand for both outlets, and, regardless, both Civic Action and Political Action are pimping the same things.

But, of course, it is difficult to file a complaint. It has to be sworn to and notarized. There is no email to really say "hey, you might want to investigate X." But, you can call toll free at 800-424-9530 or by e-mail at info@fec.gov. Bombard them with email. After what MoveOn PAC did to General Patraeus, they deserve. And, we all know that there is no difference. It is just games brought about thanks to John McCain. We will ignore Feingold’s role; he is a Democrat, after all.

Evening Update: Via Confederate Yankee, another great Flyover stater, it appears that Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive has filed a complaint with the FEC, in terms of the discounted rate MoveOn PAC recieved from the times (see Confederate Yankee link for this, as well.)

And, over at Powerline Blog, Rudy G is asking the NY Times for the same discounted rate. Check the audio. Bet liberals aren’t so hot to trot for a Fairness Doctrine to apply to them!

Friday update: Michelle M is saying Hell no, we won’t move on.

Filing a compalint with the FEC is like taking a case to the 9th Circus court. All it will fine is the round file or shredder. When asked the won’t be able to find the paperwork. FEC, another worthless organization.

Life is becoming so unfair for republicans.
There just doesn’t seem to be the same heady optimism of total victory that they had just a few short years ago.

Thanks, Ogre.

John, what is unfair? The fact that MoveOn smeared a US General Officer in a personal way? Or that MoveOn may have broken the law?
