Malissa, I can see the point you are driving at, but there is a huge difference between being allowed to wear something with the American Flag on it, particularly on Sept. 11, and gang related apparel. Some folks will say “you cannot ban some and not others.” Au contraire, you can, because there are differences. And, I do understand much of small town America. I live in Raleigh, and we are surrounded by small towns. I know people who live in them. I have been there. I grew up in one (granted, it was in NJ.)

with all the criticism for the principals actions to the obvious rise in gang activity, in a small community that otherwise does not have the same issues as most large cities, (why do you think we all live here-duh) what do you boneheads suggest he does to curb the problem of illegal immigrants, and parentless children causing such horrific problems in our small community. stand up now. cant hear you!

I am a teacher. If I was at the school mentioned I would wear my flag in a proper and respectful way. I would not care what the adminstration says. I don’t care if you are from another country and it offends you. If it offends you that bad, MOVE!

Unfortunately, Scrap, you are correct. It used to be we would have these northern lib problems only in the big (well, big for us) cities. Now, they are spreading out. And NC is probably in the top 5-10 for government corruption.

North Carolina is a dying state. Too many yankee’s have moved in because they couldn’t afford to live in the northern “blue” states and they brought their stupidity with them. Soon they won’t be able to live in N.C. either due to the liberal laws and high taxes they now think N.C. should suffer with. Stupid is as stupid does, is a perfect description of a democrat.

In response to Ann’s comment, I was unaware of this so I did look it up. First, it can be found 176(D) rather than 175. Also, what it states is somewhat different than being incorporated into any article of clothing. What it does state is” The flag should never be used as wearing apparel.” Having a reproduction of the stars and strips on article of clothing, whether it be a shirt, jacket or tie (which, by the way, members of the House and Senate have been observed doing on many occasions), is not wearing THE flag as an apparrel, no more than wearing a shirt with the picture of an airplane makes you a jetliner.
I do appreciate your attempt, but I believe your information is incorrect.

You are right, Ann, but, I think people who do it in a respectful way are doing no harm. I have several shirts with the Flag on it.

Fortunately, in this case, the school backed down.

Actually, the Flag Code (4 U.S.C. 175) specifically prohibits the flag from being incorporated into any article of clothing. The only exceptions are for flag patches and lapel flag pins.

Mark – Every day, whether pending, is Flag Day in our house. On Patriot’s Day
(that’s on 9-11 for loonies that don’t know), I flew a huge Betsy Ross Flag, and at night lit four large candles inside four glass vases commemorating the Twin Towers, Pentagon and ~UF93~ beneath the flag. Of 50 houses in our new development, I only saw 6 American Flags waving! What a disgrace but when they take GOD out of our public school classrooms, and flags, and the Pledge of Allegiance… we know what the consequences are!
