Duke Lacrosse: Way To Go Team

After a tough time, this is good news for them

ANNAPOLIS, MD. – Back in March when the Duke men’s lacrosse team had ascended to the position of the top-ranked lacrosse team in the nation, head coach John Danowski said it was too soon for the Blue Devils to own that distinction.

With losses to Loyola and Cornell, he actually voted against his squad in the USILA coaches poll, trying to keep players grounded in reality. Before the postseason, Duke was awarded a No. 2 ranking.

Six weeks after his initial assessment, Danowski has changed his mind. A 19-11 come-from-behind victory over rival North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday persuaded his thinking.

Especially now that the Devils are headed to the Final Four for the third time in school history.

"Number one," said Danowski of his new choice, his top-seeded team (16-2) having proved its mettle against eighth-seeded UNC (10-6) at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium before an announced crowd of 10,438.

A fitting near to last chapter in this sorry state of affairs. Kudo’s, boys!

We have a local athlete named Josh Coveleski that loves playing for Duke and I hope they win it all! They’ll make the cover of the EBONY and JET magazines, eh?!

Guess you need a Devils sports team to blog for since your NJ Devils got spanked! Don’t worry, as a Bruins fan I know what real pain is, we are on a re-re-re-rebuilding plan (again).

Seriously, congratulations to Duke and I hope they keep winning.

You’re right my fellow patriot, and now we cheer on the Anaheim Ducks versus the Mother Canuckers from Ottawa! How MANY Stanley Cups did Kenny Dryden, Ivan Cournoyer and Guy LaFleur cost Boston? I used to listen to those games on WBZ and Bob Johnson’s play by play in the 70′s! We saw Ottawa in December and I told my son that Ottawa is solid, dangerous and well coached. Love that #11 Alfredsson….GAME ON!
