While the left today faults Bush for not having served in combat, they had no such problem with Bill Clinton, who had avoided any military service whatsoever. They even defended Clinton by pointing out how Lincoln had never been in the military. As it turns out, Honest Abe, while not serving in the national army, had served in the Illinois state militia. The state militias were eventually consolidated into what is today the National Guard. What this means is Lincoln’s military experience is more similar to that of Air Guard veteran Bush, than that of lifelong civilian Clinton.
It is kinda funny how the libs, who say they love the Constitution, forget that the Framers set it up for civilian control of the military.
