Global Warming “May” Change Amazon

Coulda, shoulda, mighta, maybe(a)

Global warming could spell the end of the world's largest remaining tropical rain forest, transforming the Amazon into a grassy savanna before end of the century, researchers said Friday.

Jose Antonio Marengo, a meteorologist with Brazil's National Space Research Institute, said that global warming, if left unchecked, will reduce rainfall and raise temperatures substantially in the ecologically rich region.

"We are working with two scenarios: a worst case and a second, more optimistic one," he said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

"The worst case scenario sees temperatures rise by 5 to 8 degrees until 2100, while rainfall will decrease between 15 and 20 percent. This setting will transform the Amazon rain forest into a savanna-like landscape," Marengo said.

So, they do not really know what is going to happen. Typical. Educated guesses are still guesses

However, I will agree that deforestation and air pollution, along with water pollution, are dangers. Whether global warming is really happening is much disputed, as well as whether Man can actually have enough of an effect to actually influence the world wide climate. It is my opinion that we can, and have. We may not be able to do anything about the natural processes of the Earth and Sun, but we can do something about pollution and deforestation. And that is what all the global warming as caused by Man hysterics should spend their time trying to fix.

Of course, global warming, climate change, whatever, is a big business, bringing in lots of money, especially into people's pockets who then turn around and have huge houses, limo's, and private jets, along with the huge corporate offices.

Did you know that deforestation is responsible for the melting of Mt. Kilamanjaro's glaciers? That's correct. Not global warming as caused by Man. Still, deforestation is something that can be avoided.

Did you know that Hugo Chavez, the darling of the Left, is involved in deforestation in South America? Correct. Do not expect to hear anything negative about that, though.

There is no telling what may happen with the Amazon. This report states it will be dryer. Many global warming studies say it will be wetter. But, no one truly knows. Fix what can be fixed, deal with what can be dealt with.

    Dear Captain of this blog:
I reiterate the first comment; have a Happy!!! I enjoy reading your observations. As to your comments; when meteorologists cannot even predict a rainy day tomorrow and get paid for it, I have a feeling that global warming theories will go the way of global cooling theories within the next 20 – 30 years. I have a few theories of my own about the rise of such global conversations and hysteria. Probably has to do with the end of the world and the Book of Revelations. But this is just speculation, of course. A thought to take into consideration.
