Plamegate: Senor Wilson No Want To Testify

After all the whining and complaining by Former "sub-Ambassador who got to talk to Saddam to insult the Big S" Wilson about his wife being "outed" so she could appear in Vanity Fair, now he has issues

Former U.S. Ambassador Joseph Wilson has filed a motion to quash the witness subpoena for him issued last week in the Lewis "Scooter" Libby trial, arguing the defense has no right to call a witness whose testimony would not help it.

"Mr. Wilson is such a witness," the motion to quash said. "He personally observed none of the events that led to Mr. Libby's indictment and he has no direct personal information regarding Mr. Libby's defense, i.e., the matters Mr. Libby worked on at the White House or Mr. Libby's memory or veracity.

"Thus, Mr. Wilson's testimony would not be relevant or material to the defense and, therefore, should not be compelled."

Would not be relevant? He sure seemed to have relevant knowledge when he was out their yammering to every sympathetic reporter and network he could find. And, yes, I am sure that the defense will attempt to use the trial to assault Wilson, and probably Plame's, credibility. However, Wilson may be able to help Libby's case, so, per Amendment VI "In all criminal prosecutions,…to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor,.." he should be able to call Joe Wilson.

The officials were later identified as Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage, who left office in 2005, and Karl Rove, President Bush's top political adviser. Both men have testified before special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's grand jury, and Rove's lawyers say he will not be charged.

No, no, no. It was Dick Armitage who leaked the name, not Rove, and Fitzgerald new this within months of the investigation starting. I wonder if Libby's lawyers can put Fitzgerald on the stand?
